Here is the patriotic song from the legendary movie ‘Pazhassi Raja’. Originally sung by Dasettan, penned by ONV Mash and composed by Ilayaraja Sir. (The tamil version is by Madhu Balakrishnan)
This pick may not be tasteful for everyone since there is no much of ‘musicality’ in it. I personally liked the ‘spirit’ of it and thought of giving an attempt. More than the singing part I got thrilled on the mixing. My friend Gijo has helped me in the chorus. Soon he will be uploading his version as well (with my chorus :)
(Dear listeners, so long after my upload, i’ve realized a mistake in my lyrics in the charanam ‘sooryathejassarnnavar than’ is sung wrongly. since my file got corrupt i’m not able to edit this portion. i aplologize for the mistake.)

regarding echo: I had deliberately given little excess effect to match the spirit of the song. but i also felt little too much echo or reverb (i’m not sure) when i heard it from another system other than my monitors. unfortunately i couldn’t fix it, since my mixing file got corrupt and vocal parts are missing from it.
Vishnu, feels gr8 if you felt my voice is somewhere close to our gre8 Dasettan :)

now, coming to song…. nothing less than the orignal…. beautiful mixing too!!! only issue that i could find is the echo…. some places, it was bit more, i guess…. also, some places music dominated over your voice….
But, really enjoyed it a lot!!! great effort and 5/5 from me….

to answer your question regarding the sound work, yes…. vocal effects in the sound mixing plays a major role in the recording as well as on live stages, although it can’t help unless the singer could sing well with the right ‘pitching’, ‘notes’, ‘gain/throw’ etc…. legendary musicians and playback singers are all depending on these sound effects. it might be applied differently according to the mood and nature of the song.
as we are in the business of ‘covering’ an already established song, we might need to slightly ‘mimic’ the vocal effects of that particular song. that’s why if you listen to my other songs, there might be variations in the effects, though you will recognize my vocal tone throughout.
fortunately this particular song suited well to me and i’m performing it on live stages as well.
