Mazha Njaan Arinjirunnilla ... Lyrics & Chords
It has been more than two months since I have sung anything and finally sat up to sing something over the weekend. Here is my cover of a beautiful melody composed by Bennet-Veetrag duo for the Malayalam movie “Doctor Patient”. Did this one without a backing track. (you can hear the original here, from one of the composers himself – http://soundcloud.com/search?q[fulltext]=mazha+njaan)

Soulful singing Jo! Loved the way you handled the last lines in the charanams and the refrain! :)
I listened to the original by Veetraag and was floored!!!!

Adithi – Thanks a lot. :-) The original in the film is sung by Hariharan and I too was floored by Veetraag’s singing and don’t understand why they even had to get Hariharan for this because Veetraag himself was good enough.
Anju – Thanks for the comments. :-) This song is from the 2009 movie “Doctor Patient”. Also have to mention the beautiful lyrics by Rafeeq Ahammed.

@Jo Chettan: There is a difference between your rendition and the original. I mean the nuances. So I felt that the tune was not matching the original at places. Soulful singing.
Regarding your query about why Hariharan? Veet is of the opinion that in no way you can compare his rendition to Hariharan cause he believes that Hariji has taken this song to a higher level :D
Oru chinna doubt… I am aware that the original
has the lyrics as ഗ്രീഷമാതപം? But is there a word like that? isn’t it ഗ്രീഷ്മതാപത്തിന്റെ? The
thirst of the hot summer, ain’t it?

Rahul – As I usually do, I didn’t follow the exact original version. :-) Like Adithi pointed out here, I took the liberty to sing it on my own (which also means that I’m accountable to all the flaws too! :D).
About Hariharan’s choice – not to say the legendary singer was bad, but this one in itself was soulful and beautiful
I also think “ഗ്രീഷ്മ താപം” makes more sense in that place than “ഗ്രീഷ്മ തപം”. :-)

Joseph, you always pick the best suitable to your singing! enjoyed listening to your soothing voice again :)
i never knew it’s 2 years old song, as i noticed this beautiful song recently only.
i agree with you, after listening to the composer’s amazing version, i also really wonder, why they had to make it with Hariharan, although i’ve a big respect to the legend.
anyways thanks for inspiring and giving a trigger to seriously consider making a version of mine (i don’t know when can i do :(
Pls tune to my latest uploads

Swati – Thank you so much. :-)
Kala – Thanks a lot. :-) I have been humming this song for sometime now. :-)

Jose – Thank you. :-) I think it is because the movie was a flop that the song went unnoticed. But since they came back with Gadhama, the song came to the forefront again.

Hi Jo,
Very nicely done without bgm music … in your melodious voice. Enjoyed it and your voice quality was superb as always. I took the liberty of listening to Hari ji’s original and also that of Veetraag’s unplugged version. Well, my take on these kind of melodies is that it is only a framework for singers to bring their own into it, like you did. First time listening to you it sounded quite awesome I must say and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Veetraag’s version with the chord structures and guitar accompaniment was obviously better to hear … and then when I heard Hariji’s version with the full blown bgm he brought his own style into it with extra brigas here and there and made it his own. I think what Hari ji brought to it in my opinion was more breathy bass and more expression and heartfelt singing, as he is very experienced in ghazal and hindustani obviously and these kind of songs are really only play items for him.
I think your voice quality alone was great to hear … wonder if you can develop more bass to show more depth … that would be nice I thought. Anyways great melody and v.good singing.
Cheers.

Very good observations, Arvind. Thank you.
I think an unplugged version gives more space to put focus on the music, words and the feel of the song without much distractions (I really wish I had the same guitar backing as Veetrag’s track had, because that makes a lot more difference when you sing/hear the song). It feels more personal, that the singer is singing just for you. Perhaps if I heard Hariji’s version of the song with just the guitar bgm, I would love it more (and I’m realizing it only now after reading your comment). And I think the kind of bass he has in his voice comes through the age and practice and it comes to him naturally. Evidently I still don’t have that talent, and trying to make it sound bassy would only make it sound artificial I guess.
“my take on these kind of melodies is that it is only a framework for singers to bring their own into it” – Absolutely. :-)
