Ogo Kajol Noyona Horini (Bengali) Hemanth
Ogo Kajol Noyona Horini (Be... Lyrics & Chords
2011 Nov 26 Cover -
This is my dedication to my guru Naqvi ji, who had recently requested that I attempt a Hemant Da song :-) ….
Been wanting to reattempt this Bengali evergreen using some recently learnt Muziboo best practices. Here’s today’s attempt….
I heard this song almost 3 decades ago on a regional songs program in Doordarshan called Chitramala. The haunting melody stuck to me since then. Thanks to YouTube & Meragana, I could now trace this song out and attempt it.
Please do bear with my diction flaws, Cuz, I don’t know Bengali :-) !
The lyrics and translation is below. Please don’t miss it….
Thank you & kind regards,
Hemanth
======
Ye I Shundhor Prithibite….
[IN THIS BEAUTIFUL WORLD]
Jikane Jakichu Ache, Shundhor…….
[WHATEVER THERE IS, IS BEAUTIFUL]
Eshona Shobhai….
[COME ALL]
Eshona Shobhai Ekechu
Upohaar Dhithe….
[COME ALL, TO GIVE ANY SORT OF GIFT]
Ogo kajolo noyona horini
[O dark eyed doe]
Tumi dao na o duti ankhi
[Would you give me, Those two eyes of your’s]
ogo golap papdi melona
[O red rose bud]
tar odhore tomake rakhi
[Would you bloom now, So I can place you
On her cheek]
ogo golap papdi melona
tar odhore tomake rakhi
ogo kajolo noyona horini
ogo kanchono borona, champoko monjori, koro taake champoko barona,
[O radiantly blonde Champa flower, Smear her in your hue]
esho uchcholo jhorona, okarano Ull-lashe, hashi hoye tar jore podona….
[O wild spring, Become her laughter, Flowing mindlessly at the foothills]
ogo nibiro kunjo meghe, digonto hote esho, megh kalo kuntalo galona,
[O dark rain cloud, On the horizon, Lend your darkness to her hair ]
esho aporoopa chondrima, poornima jochhona, jhorona nonetar jharona………
[O inscrutable moonlinght, Flush her face with your glow]
ogo moyur pekhom tolona……
[O charming peacock Open up your plume]
ogo moyur pekhom tolona
[O charming peacock Open up your plume]
tar lajja tomate aki
[To wrap Her coy blush]
ogo kajolo noyona horini….
[O dark eyed doe]
ogo kunjo kokil esho, panchomo shur diye, kokile konthi taake korona,
[O cuckoo of the garden, Lend all notes Of your song To her voice]
esho ashnto shomirano, dao dol….dao dol, chhande chhande taake dhorona….
[O restless breeze, Stroke her at your beat, Capture her In your rhythm]
ogo joubono bonna, leelae torange kanay kanay take bhorona,
[O flood like desire, Deluge her unto edge With all your Delightful enchantment]
esho anonto jogoter jotoroopa laboni, tar roope chadh kore narona………
[Come all the splendor From all corners Of the endless universe, Merge into her Magnificence]
esho amar moner madhuri…….
[Come o my fantasy]
esho amar moner madhuri
[Come o my fantasy]
tar shwapono tomate ankhi
[Paint all my dream In her body]
ogo kajolo noyona horini

tar odhore tomake rakhi
ogo kajolo noyona horini
[O dark eyed doe

O red rose bud
Would you bloom now, So I can place you On her cheek]

HEMANTH ji….
Nice composition and nice singing. Nice dedication to Naqvi Saab. I could only understand ‘Kajol Nayana Horini’. By the way…. Does Horini means a dear ? Loved your rendition.

Bhai I would like to thank you so much for dedicating this lovely Bangla song to me. So befitting song in your voice. Man you sang with open throat and chest and displayed full confidence. Very few songs get unnoticed if the track is not at par but you have overshadowed that with your powerful performance. Loved it though I don’t understand Bangla other than few words that I had learnt while I was young from a few acquaintances from Dhakka who were living in Karachi until 1975. They eventually left for Bangla Desh but how they spoke was no different than how you sang. So I assume your diction was good. There are so many lovely songs by Hemant Da I hope to listen more. Try some SD Barman’s songs too. This is an absolute favorite.

Dear Naqvi ji, Very glad that you liked my dedication to you. Yes, I am familiar with numerous Hemant Da Hindi songs, and will attempt a few more down the road….
Regarding the lyrics and translation for this song, I do have them above, in case you missed….
SD Burman ji was a fantastic music director and singer too. I love his “Saphal hogi teri aaraadana” from Aaraadana movie, and have attempted it in the past. I will redo it one of these days.
Many thanks for your time, encouragement, & mentoring to me and to others here in this forum.
Warm regards,

Harshan, No bro, this was Hemant da’s masterpiece…. The lyrics might have roots to Rabindro sangeeth, so I was told by my childhood friend who had helped translate the song….
Just watch the original and you will be blown away by the artwork…. :

I am a great fan of uttam kumar’s charming smile :) nice movie!
Good pick ! Beautiful rendition ! Felt a little bit softness needed in voice(rendition).liked your version.
Hemanth Kumar
said
True, Latha ji…. The pitch was a bit too high for me, and I seem to have compromised on the softness…. Believe it or not, this past July, prior to my true exposure to M’Boo…. when I had attempted this song, I had to bring the same track’s scale down by almost 2 units :-) !
Thank you….

Hi Adina,
Many thanks for your lavish appreciation :-) ! True, after so many attempts, I still goofed on the main word NAYANA itself :-D ! Hemant Da pronounces it as NoYaNa…., and I have done it as NaYoNa :-) ! Hope it is not too noticeable though….
Many thanks and kind regards,
Hemanth

Madhukar Ji,
Many thanks for your time and encouragement. I do have the lyrics and translation above, in case you missed them….
For some reason, my mic tweaking on this attempt was not a whole lot satisfactory. Subsequent to recording, I also started familiarizing myself ith REVERB settings as against ECHO settings. This was Harshan bro’s reco, and is turning out very well. The Tamil song I have uploaded the latest is using REVERB, and has a lot of clarity.
I might retry this Bengali gem another time, using proper settings.
Many thanks and kind regards,
Hemnth
