How do I learn Guitar?
Guitar Learner posted
Well I have been trying for years … on and off to try and learn to play my acoustic guitar.
I know a few chords, I can play one or two covers (manage them rather). Problem is that some tutorials start talking of music sheets, staff and what not. While other talk of riffs and such stuff.
How do I go about learning some basic stuff that is also fun to do. I know it will take time but I want to go down a path that is atleast interesting enough. Can someone recommend some book or video or something?
I am not aiming at something great … I just want to be able to play some covers well …. thats all … how did you all learn guitar … what was your journey like.
Looking forward to your response.

Hi Guitar Learner -
Go listen to some of my stuff (the solo songs with me strumming and singing). If you decide that that is what you want to do too, here is how I did it.
I got a basic book that showed me how to finger the open chords. The book I had had a 12-bar blues progression in the key of ‘A’ so I worked on that (chords are A, D, E7). Then I worked on A7 and D7 to spice things up a bit. I then started buying guitar magazines that included tab and using them to learn the rhythm parts of songs I like. I would usually work on one song per magazine. I would practice from 30 to 60 minutes a day, just playing along with the recordings of the songs I like. After about 6 months, I knew a few songs and 5 or 6 chords (which are enough to play thousands of songs).
