Dear Friends,
Well I think a lot of my Muziboo friends are aware of my work posted here. I sincerely believe that I am a music layman, nothing special about me:)..Its not that I underestimate my talent or im short of confidence….I just know my strengths and weaknesses and try and play my cards right all the time…I guess sometimes being realistic really helps…....
As a singer, I have a very limited range, current working on improving my lower and midrange….High range is a bit of problem to me which i hope improves int he future…I always has a tough time in delivering a constant pitch during my rendition which i hope will come with practice.
I have learned different attributes in preparing to record a song and then finalizing it from a lot of my singer friends here.
Muziboo has inspired a lot of confidence in me singing wise by listening to so many talented singer doing their job perfectly….I would like to attain that kind of perfection some day…Every song I attempt, I make a very hard effort in learning it and delivering it the right way….sometimes it works and sometimes it ain’t….So my main goal at the moment is to be consistent and reliable when it comes to covering any song…..
To become better, I practice sargam every morning for 20 minutes and also indulge in vocal/breath exercises from the past 4 months….I feel i have improved a lot in the breath aspect of singing…But, still has a long way to go…I also practice KHARAJ (a classical lingo to sing any song in low notes). Classical gurus believe that if you practice KHARAJ , then ur low notes becomes good and it also helps a singer to attain good consitency of higher notes..
I have a serious passion in learning the nuances of singing (pitching mainly, then feel and expression alongwith improving my range as a singer) and hope my honesty, dedication and hardwork will payoff someday….
Please pay any suggestions/insights which will make me better in the future…
Regards,
AJ/Rahul

AJ, Its great to know that you are practising every day followed by deep breathing exercises. I myself practise “Sudarshan Kriya” its a deep breathing technique …good for your lungs.
You have a very nice voice so half the battle is won. As I had suggested earlier, choose more songs in the lower mid range where you dont have to really go high. With constant practise, you will enhance your range as well. Also you tend to be a little nasal in some renditions, work on avoiding that influence.
According to me mixing wise you have really come a long way ….
Keep practising with the same passion ….you will get there ..:-)

AJ,
If at all there is someone out there who are ready to experiment and take criticism in right spirit then it’s you my friend. And I admire your constant efforts to improvise your singing.
I think you have a nice voice, and that’s what you need to be a good singer. What you lack is the patience to practice a song as many times as possible. Try singing the song aloud and you should ask someone to point the areas in the song that they think your require to work on. Concentrate on those parts and master them, then sing the song. You will feel the difference.
Don’t worry about the mixing man, you will get there for sure, or else there will be someone out there who will be generous enough to help you out with that. Try concentrating more on pitch and your voice.

AJ,
A small observation that I thought would be helpful for you w.r.t the minor pitching issues. When you finish singing a song don’t listen to the song with your headphones on. Try to play the song in regular speakers and you will see the difference. This helped me a lot. Hope it will have the same effect for you too.

AJ,
I am really glad that you are putting in so much effort to improve. I didnt realize you practice every morning. Keep up the good work!!! What stands out for me the most about you is your enthusiasm. Shows you are very passionate about music, and thats a good thing. From a singing perspective, your biggest strength again is your voice. That is what people crave to have, a good voice :-) Singing will come with practice. SO keep practicing. There is no doubt in my mind that you are improving. There is obviously still a long way to go. Your main issue right now is pitch control. You need to get that right. Focus on the mid range which is where your voice sounds the best. Your mixing hopefully will also get better with time. But I commend you on your assessment. I mean it takes a lot to write an honest self assessment like that. Keep singing and you will get it right in no time :-)
