First of all, I want to thank Shonnie Madan for reminding me of this song. I had totally forgotten about this song and then I heard her cover, which prompted me to sing this.
There is a reason why I havent covered Stevie Wonder to date. Its coz he is nothing short of a Genius. His vocal range and style of singing is hard to mimic. This is my fav song of his. I did introduce some variations (couldnt resist).

Agree with Smitha, you got awesome range… Loved the variations in the highs, they come so naturally to you! The harmonies were perfect… Damn this is a tough one to cover… sudden drops, sudden highs, you made it sound like a piece of cake though… ‘Sun’ at 2:20, and the couple of lines that followed were simply mindblowing… this sure was something! Fantabulous five from me! :D

Thanks for your feedback Kumar. And your observation is very true. Most soul/R&B vocalists really stretch themselves in songs and often strain while hitting the high notes which definitely emphasizes the love/hate/hurt or whatever other emotion they are trying to portray.

Probably one of my most favourites ever!!!
Strained higher registers is noticeable , but just is insignificant when compared to the rest of the song.

Subbu – Thanks for the feedback man. Not sure if you are familiar with the original, but the line at 1:22 is “So then she wont think its really you my part time lover”. The original is done the same way with the words stuffed to fit the tune. Regarding the ease of rendition, the scale as you would have figured out is quite extraordinary with this song. It goes all over the place. So some strain is bound to be there (as is true with most Stevie Wonder songs).

George-Love the passionate response,thanks :)-I dont comment technically on songs which I am not familiar with,just to clarify.Yes However it does not sound so obviously “stuffed” in the original(in the version I have),and thats what I probably meant.On the scale issue-Yes you have mentioned it in the preamble-what I meant was not the strain in the voice-but by your own high standards in your renditions you sound absolutely at ease-But here you do sound a bit conscious-possibly due to the combination of high pitch and the rushing lyrics….thats what I tried to convey….sorry for the longish reply……trust this clarifies.

Subbu – Thanks for the clarification man. I think the reason it sounds more stuffed like u said is the combination of all the lyrics, breath control and the fact that I am a desi after all :).
Even though I am used to high pitch songs, Stevie Wonder is another league :)

Radhika – To answer your question, I believe you are talking about the transition from “By night” to “knowing its so wrong”. Because of the way I improvised and extended the “By night” it overlaps with the next line in terms of timing. So theres no other go but to record that in a separate take. I wanted that overlap. I hope that makes sense.
