you have nailed it. Though I must say, this is a softer voice as compared to Anand’s voice on the original.
I am hooked to Avial from the day 1 I heard. Truly amazing group. And one of the finest production I have heard from India in ages. Very innovative sound.
Though I don’t understand a single word, but the music is absolutely fabulous. It also features the only non-Mallu member and one of my most fav bassist in India today, Naresh Kamath.
Would like to know though how you did the Karaoke track. You have some vocals remover software?
I will look fwd to hear more of Avial stuff from you.

Satyajit – Man I cant agree with you more about Avial. They are so FRESH and refined. I love their arrangement. I agree about the bassist too… hes amazing. I did use vocal cut using a VST plugin called Extraboy.

George— that was so good maan :) And, your plugin seems to be working just great !! Not familiar with the original, so this is as original as it gets for me. Needless to say, loved the blueszzy feel that you introduced and the harmonies.

Soft transition into 2.32 was wonderful to the ears :P

Good work George. I love the Avial songs too. The way they mix the Malayalam folk songs/tunes with rock is just amazing. I have heard their lead singer (Anand Paul) performing in various rock shows in and around Thrissur (he’s been part of several local rock bands here). And I heard that he is not with the band anymore as he left to USA. And I think Avial without Anand and his clear and powerful vocals is not going to sound the same as they did in the first album. I only wish that they’re not going to be a one-album wonder.

George, listening to it all over again (several times). I am as much in love with the original as your take. You have added a lot more stuff in terms of chorus and harmonies, and made it your own.
And for those, who have never heard Avial before, you just can’t afford to miss it. No matter if you don’t speak Mallu (I don’t), but you cannot possibly help yourself being sucked into their music. One of the finest arrangement and modern sound.

Thanks for your feedback. No tools for harmonies man. Just plain singing… I just add multiple layers… typically 2-3 and then pan the harmonies.

your improvisations give the song a new feel. I had always felt those parts were a little hollow in the original one. You have “filled” in!!

The mixing could have been better, your voice clarity is not that good.

Hey George. Great job with this one. I recently heard Avial live and without their original vocalist they are just a little above average. The new guy had sung Chekele….and I swear it was not par with your cover of it.

Cannot stop myself from pointing 2 things though:

1. The end notes that you sing seem to have a comic element/intonation which I think can be done away with.

2. The strain at the top notes could be made a
little less obvious.

Try out ‘Nada Nada’ some time if you haven’t already :) BTW I am not a Mallu….but I like the sound of Avial :)

Thanks a lot for visiting my page and your kind feedback. Regarding the pointers, the strain at the high notes was intentional mainly to emote. I am not sure about the first point … are you referring to the way I end theyyam thaaro at times?

What an amazing choice of song George! I cant really put my finger on why i liked the song so much- was it folk, was it rustic or the exotic element, sort of difficult to say, but seriously ,you sound so very good here!!

You could easily be the lead singer of any number of hugely popular bands!!
