MARIT LARSEN
“Under the Surface”
Under the Surface (2006)
If A Song Could Get Me You (2009)

It’s such a funny sensation to be
So happy that you wanna die
Promises always were crazy to me
But never was I so surprised

Minutes are longer when we are apart
Your presence’s more than I can handle
It’s come to the point where I wonder if I could ever be luckier

When suddenly I’m back at the core
Thinking of her who had you before
Were you as good
As good as we are
Do you remember?

Did you love her the way you love me?
Is there a chance that there might be
Traces of her that you carry under the surface?

Lend me your ears, I would like to confess
I’m doubting that you can be real
By your side wearing a beautiful dress
I celebrate how good it feels

Say that you love me, say that it’s true
I know that I want to believe you
But somehow silence speaks louder than words
I’m worried she’s still on your mind

Suddenly, I’m back at the core
Thinking of her who had you before
Were you as good
As good as we are
Do you remember?

Did you love her the way you love me?
Is there a chance that there might be
Traces of her that you carry under the surface?

Mmm, I know that I’m selfish
I know that it’s bad
I know but it’s driving me mad
It’s driving me mad

Suddenly, I’m back at the core
Thinking of her who had you before
Were you as good
As good as we are
Do you remember?

Did you love her the way you love me?
Is there a chance that there might be
Traces of her that you carry under the surface?

Under the surface
Under the surface

I alway read the lyrics you include with the songs that you post. Some of the lyrics are a challange for me to understand. The contradicting messages in this song defy my sense of logic but maybe the contradictions are a clever statement about the sweet and sour of love – caring so much that it hurts and wanting more than can be given in return.
“So happy that you want to die”? The way I understand these lyrics, I can relate to the questions about what memories the one I love might have of past loves in their lives. What was their love like? Was the love they had better than ours? Do they miss that past love? Do they wish I was more like their past love?

I like the songs you share and I appreciate that you post the lyrics of the songs you post.

Hi Bes. I’m not a writer but I take your misconception as a compliment! I am a geophysicist – related to oil and gas exploration. I do mostly seismic data processing to transform sound waves generated by sound sources on the surface (air guns in water and dynamite or vibrtational sources on land). The sound generated by sound sources are recorded by extremely sensitive microphones on the surface. The recorded sound signals are transformed into visual displays of subsurface structure as deep as 10 miles beneath the surface. The structural images are used for locating structures where oil or gas may have been trapped. I also like art – I’m taking evening classes at a college towards a degree in 3D animation. I like musical melodies and song lyrics, or anything else that expresses emotions. Art expresses emotions also. I guess science is a good balance since I can get away from emotions while doing the science stuff. Not all lyrics are interesting for me but your choices have been. I like your selections – I think you have a talent for finding well written and interesting lyrics with messages from which I learn more about the emotions that develop during interactions with others.

Bes, what inspired you to post songs in here? I registered as a member of this site because a friend told me he wrote and played a song that he posted in muziboo (he on piano and his friend using a synthesizer for percussion). I wanted to use this site to post a couple of mixes I made to practice using soundbooth software (made by the same company that makes Photoshop – a company named Adobe). After becoming a member to listen to my friend’s song and post two mixes to share with my sisters who live far away from me, I discovered how fun it is to listen to other’s favorites. What attracted you to this site?
