Singing is my passion, my musical journey started off at a very young age. Initially it was just a hobby for me, I am the only one who can sing in my whole family (both mom and dad’s). So growing up was loads of fun, because whenever we attended family functions/get togethers I was always asked to sing. I used to like it a lot. That attention of people encouraged me to learn Classical Carnatic, but I was more interested in film music. I strongly feel that learning Carnatic helped me have my basics right.
I get inspired by a good melody provided it has very good lyrical value. Basically I sing songs that I like period. My inspirations in this big world of music start with Sri. S.P.Balasubrahmanyam garu, Sri. Yesudas, Mohd Rafi saab, Kishore daa, A.R.Rahman, Unni Krishnan, Jagjith Singh, Hariharan, Sonu Nigam and latest is Ash King (Dil Gira Dafathan – Delhi 6) I don’t think it will ever end.
I have miles to go before I can talk about my +ves. I believe in constant improvisation / inspiration. I think I am just an OK singer, things that I need to work more are my higher range, my nasal influences at certain parts of some songs, and sing all genres (contemporary, fast and peppy) of songs with right emotions and expressions.
My association with Muziboo started off as just another music community where I can upload my songs. But warmness of the people here surprised me especially NVK sir, George, Sashank, Kumaran, Adithi, Sudhathee, PB, AJ, TGK, Rakesh etc…. They were always there to encourage and critic me. I am really happy that I am part of a big family of musicians here, Please keep doing what you are doing. And I hope someday we all going to get there.
By the way, Sorry George, it took me a while to get here. This is an awesome discussion. Thanks for starting this.

That was a very under rated self assessment, agree with George on that :=) I personally think you are very gifted, and it’s hard to believe that you have had only minimal classical training!!! Spot on the nasality part, probably more singing, being open throated might help you there.
I feel you rock in slow ballads, am yet to hear you sing a peppy number ( hope I didn’t miss any post of yours LOL)
We should have collaborated almost a year ago when you asked me about a duet in Hindi, but then I sure am looking fwd to singing a number with you, very soon.
Do keep posting more songs, found it to be the best way to keep in touch!

I think you are a very talented singer with some unique capabilities. You can innovate on even popular songs that people expect to be sung like the original and still make it sound good. Woh Shaam, Rimjhim Ghire were great examples where you displayed this ability.
Another strength of yours is feel and expression – great voice modulation.
I would like to hear more contemporary songs from you.
Would like to see you improve your lower range.
I agree with others that you have underestimated yourself and you are a far better singer than what you have assessed yourself to be.
Keep posting more songs – always a pleasure to listen to your songs.

Koi Aur bolta bhee tho I would be angry ki no Dhiraj is an above average singer….but you said it so would tell you politely sir your one of the best singers here on Muziboo…I have never heard you going offnote in anyone of your renditions. U have always been perfect in your sur and taal…I wish I could be like you as far as harqat, Sur and taal is concerned….
The only think you should look at right now is the bass of your voice when you go for lower notes…and that would come only with conscious effort to improve the quality of your voice . Yoga viz. breathing exercises , keeping your nose clear will help u great deal bro….:) advice from an average singer to a great singer :)…Happy singing bro

Dhiraj. …loved your modesty bro ….you are a great singer. Your lower range is pretty good you have great control over it ., but I would like you to attempt some peppy contemporary songs as well…also you need to post songs more often ….:-)

Thanks so much for visiting my thread and leaving a comment and especially appreciating my voice. All of you think that I am a better singer than I thought I was. But the reason why I said that I am an OK singer is. I haven’t attempted any genre other than Soft, Romantic and Sad numbers. Unlike others who have done all kinds of songs. I would love to do all kinds of Genres this year, and then next year, we all can assess my progress as a singer.

You are definitely one of my favorite male voices on muziboo without a doubt, especially in songs like Aankhen Teri which I loved. Your training in carnatic music really shows in your singing. Something I really appreciate in you is the fact that the feedback you post is always honest. You dont try to sugar coat it. Takes a lot to be like that and very few can actually do it. I think from a singing perspective, you are better than you claim to be. You have very good control, a great sense of timing too. On the negative side, you tend to be nasaly at times (like you pointed out). I think your voice is suited for mid range songs mainly. Would love to hear you sing contemporary numbers. Looking forward to a project with you soon. One more thing, do upload on a more regular basis :-) We need more songs from you!! Thanks for your encouragement and expect more of the same from you!
