Thanks everyone for your encouraging words….the best part of this cover is that it was conceived and done in 1 day…so that we could send this to a radio station where the theme was having an instruments name in the song….but unfortunately they had to move the theme out then :-)

The Australian Cuckoo’s voice has clouded the erroneous quality of the k-track… So no complaints from me about the disastrous k-track… Sweet and lovely vocals from Chondryma… Harshan ji’s vocals were good as ever… Nice and neat cover… Sad that the theme was recalled… :(

Rahul – Great work mixing Chondryma’s vocals. Sharp and Crisp. Thought Harshan’s vocals were not projected as much. Sounded a little muffled to me. The track wasn’t of much help. Very little you can do with mixing if the track is not good.

Sounds beautiful in both your voice. Nice energy and Chondryma, you’ve done a great job with your open throated singing, which of course is sweet to listen to :-). But I don’t think the track was sounding good. its kind of slightly disturbing, taking away the beauty of the vocals.

Harshan bro, though your parts were little, you’ve done it well too.

Rahul, nice sharp mixing on the vocals. Sounds crisp. Particularly Chondryma’s voice was like ice sharp :-)

I had a hard time believing it while mixing but you guys pulled it of:) Awesome job done. Loved this evergreen and superhit song of Rafi Saab and Lata ji in your voices.

The karaoke track was a poor one and since this was done in a hurry for a show, we could not get or find a better one:) Also there is a difference in recording setups of both the singers and the vocals sound a tad different to diff mix effects. The original track’s pitch was too high for Chondryma so had to reduce it a bit. That made Sree’s portions even lower and that made hi natural voice projection suffer a tad but he still managed it very well. I tried to even the scale issues to the best I could but the average track quality did not help me either. Hope it helps and thanks for appreciating these 2 wonderful singers and one average mixing effort (mine:))

Sorry for being late. What a wonderful choice. One great composition of LP ji. There is nothing much to comment on Singers as both are versatile. Loved your singing Chondryma and Harshan Ji.

However, as mentioned Track was a disaster. Rahul, we know you are a great sound engineer, so just want to confirm does a disastrous track also disturb the vocal tracks. Asking because I also felt it many times personally. Here also, due to this both voices sound a bit too sharp to ears.

@Harry bhai, Your question is a very valid one. Well, a disastrous track does/should not disturb the vocal tracks since both things are different but it does contribute when both the things are mixed together:)Vocals sounding a tad sharp here was purposely done because the track was so bad. Had to EQ the vocals till a point where they overpower the track in a way that voices are projected well and audible:) In short a perfectly mixed vocal with a bad track might not be the ideal mix. An ideal mix is where the voices cut through the track and becomes audible:) Do share your experience too so that I get to learn something new too:)

I think this is really lovely and awesome work.
The singing was exquisite and the whole mix done by Rahul with the paltry track is truly a wonderful achievement. There was a retro feel to the whole mix and the way the voices have been projected … the feel was straight out of a 60’s/70’s mono radio and quite nostalgic.

I am really impressed with all you guys and the singing by both you guys was close to flawless and the mixed presentation is a real credit to Rahul’s astute musical sense.

Simply great!.

Rahul, In response to your query above, I usually do the following in such a situation:

1.Try what you did with EQs
2.Look for another track on web,I am sure you did this one too.
3. Try to get a beat on Keyboard to match tempo and see possibility of using that & recording it over the track. So far my success rate is zero since most of time it takes away the beauty of original track. Of course I am learning to avoid being a DJ.
4. Give Up & think of another song.

:-) Most of the time I end up with option 4.
