Classic Music : lyric
Corea Antonio filippo posted
Hellò everyone,my name Corea Antonio Filippo, italian (calabrese)and appasionate of lyric but I enjoy all good music.
I believe that it is the classic music the base of any body who enters any space of this infinite field.Without this basic formation the soul remains a kind of half developed.Shall we all talk and discuss about it ?

This is definitely an interesting discussion. I am sure every tune in this world has some science behind it and I have always considered ‘Classical music’ to be the science of music. I may not be the best person to comment on this because I am neither a composer nor a trained music student. Am sure a healthy discussion can help upcoming musicians to decide if it’s worth investing time in training themselves on the classical side of music.

Contentious subject to start with-Nithya thanks for inviting me here,My amateur views are as follows :
Classical Music is just a form of music like any other popular genre(By no stretch of imagination I am undermining the same or classical musicians please)
Ilayaraaja,an Indian composer,once said-Music is beyond Time,Cultural,Linguistic,Geographical and religious boundaries.How true!!!
To me any music which appeals to an audience over an extended period of time is classical in the true sense!
I also believe a lil bit of subjectivity in music gives you more elbow room to experiment by using accidental notes and chords or what ever not part of the classical definition of the scale or Raga…pure classical rock means there can be only 12 major scales and its set of scale degree chords :)
Having said all of that one needs to understand the underlying scientific principles behind harmony, melody etc and their relationships with the emotions they generate(and why) to proceed to higher levels of music understanding and making….
-There are so many different genres of music for many of which there is no universally accepted definition,in my view they by and large apart from a few, are marketing tricks….we may suddenly have classical rap and contemporary Bebop Jazz :)
To sum it up it is the science of Music theory rather than “classical music”.
Of course it is My view purely :),but formed after extensive reading and listening to of my favourite composers and idol,Jay !

Subbu.

I am not a musician myself, but have heard people say that even if you want to sing in films (which easily translates to popular music), you are better off gaining some knowledge on the classical side. That is a very much parroted line in the Indian panorama. But in the west, I don’t know if Micheal Jackson or Britney Spears learned classical. All the same they are respected by listeners.
As for Corea Antonio here talking about soul remaining half developed, anyone that follows an art passionately feels the same about it. The popular African American singer 50 Cents probably would feel so about rap music. To each his own.
