128 kbps streaming at Muziboo.com?

April 4, 2008 · Posted in Uncategorized · 3 Comments

This is mirrored from the Muziboo lounge thread that can be found here

Last few days, there has been a lot of discussion around the policy that muziboo converts all mp3 files to 64 kbps and this hurts the sound quality. We wanted to have an official thread about it and have the discussion in one place. So here it is

Why 64 kbps
When we started out, we wanted to convert the mp3 to a bitrate that

1. Can be played back over most links smoothly. We therefore chose 64kbps and also converted the sampling rate to 44.1 khz to avoid the so called chipmunk effect.
2. Gives a good preview of the song without giving away a CD quality version so we can introduce sales and people can buy the original composition and the artists can earn revenue on their music through paid digital downloads.

What now
64 kbps will remain the default bitrate on Muziboo. However there will be two more options soon.

1. Starting next month, when we have ecommerce integrated, you can buy a high bitrate version of the track. This would apply only to originals. The costs etc will be announced at a later date.

2. If you do not want to sell your music or if you want everyone to hear a 128 kbps version, there will be an option to upgrade your account and have a premium 128 kbps streaming. There will be other benefits in the premium account such as the ability to reupload a song and not lose comments etc. Again, the exact details will be announced in a couple of weeks.

Songs uploaded feb onwards will have a 128 kbps version (if you uploaded it at that bitrate or higher) by default once you upgrade. For tracks before feb, you will be able to reupload once you upgrade the account.

The basic account with the existing services will always remain free.

We are looking forward to your feedback on this.

Regards

Radio beta live now

March 10, 2008 · Posted in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

Muziboo Radio beta is now live at the radio page. There are currently three channels playing some great original music from Muziboo. Also you can click on the Get this button and post this radio to your blog, social networking profiles (such as orkut, facebook, myspace etc).

The radio currently has a database of about 150 songs and there will be more songs (as well as channels) added over time.  Give it a spin and if you like it spread it around.

If you have some original compositions not on muziboo, I feel now is a great time to upload them and get them on the radio.

Funny characters in playlist gone

February 24, 2008 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

Most of you (ok .. all of you) would have seen the funny + % and other characters in your playlist. Akshay pointed it out in the new design help center and finally I had enough motivation to fix it. Those characters are gone now and your playlist should be clean and shiny

Also we will be soon adding multiple playlist support to muziboo .. so you can add more playlists .. like rock, classical .. whatever you want

Have Fun

United We Stand!

February 8, 2008 · Posted in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

Terrorism, War, Drugs, Aids, Cancer, Global warming, Poverty????? whatever it is, that bothers you, bothers humanity, United We Stand to fight against all of it. Well, thats the crux of Sunny’s project. A musical project started in a humble way to involve the Muzibians to start off with and involve the world itself in an ambitious sorta way. He has put up a basic creation for people to work on and coolly enough, the project is already in progress!! Do participate in whatever small (or big) way you can, the creation would ofcourse be beautiful for the noble cause behind it :) . If not anything, try to post some lyrics in your language, with the content aligning with the cause mentioned, and translate for the audience…

Check out the song (rather the song idea)

To download the tracks (minus track, vox only and mixed), please check this thread. Lets pass the baton of music in our race against the evils of the society!!
