Thaanae (Original composition) - Feat. Rashmi Nair
Thaanae (Original compositi... Lyrics & Chords
This song is about an energetic, happy go lucky girl. It’s just about “her, her music and her freedom”……
I wanted to find a ‘sweet voice’ for this song to justify the lyrics. Luckily, I found Rashmi! She has just ‘justified it’! Thanks so much for you hard work on this Rashmi.
I am a big time fan of Sushane’s violin! I really wanted to use him in one of my compositions. In fact, I composed both the interludes of this song keeping him in mind. Unfortunately, his violin could not be played in this scale. Poor guy, he even broke his strings while trying it out. We will definitely work together in one of my future projects….I will not forget the F-scale in my lifetime, Sushane!
I want to dedicate this to my sister, Janani Subash. She was my inspiration to write this song. You will find her version of this song here sometime.
Song: Thaanae

Nice job team…Bala, liked the composition and arrangement…I would probably have used less reverb on Rashmi’s voice for this though.
Rashmi your singing was effortless as others have pointed out….
Since you asked us to nitpick, I found a few minor pitch issues (“ketal” being an example), but its very very minor. I also felt in terms of scale, this is not your sweet spot. You sound best at a higer range. Thats where you are most expressive.

Good thought balu……It was nice ….that finishing line is sounding like “yetho yetho yetho ondru unnai ketpaen” ……I second georges comment on pitches and reverbs……coming to the creative part……the mood of the song is serious and very lonely person druling in a tough situation. But the lyrics were in contrast….and rashmis vocals were not helping it because of that missing bubblyness and bounce rythmic like in 3:16"manam urugum neram " has a good bounce in rythmic fashion ….this bounce should be present in "thanae thanthanae " to complment te mood, without it the song embraces its compositions mood as described above.
orchestration is nice but super squeaky clean cause of soft synth……or everything in digital mode….this is where a valve compressor kicks in….to make it more pleasant and sweet. or a sensible eq can do that trick in a track like this not everything needs to be bright and sharp I only learnt this in recent time and I am passing it to you for your good.
There is a free plugins called “sonicbirth” you can google and download for free for ever. In that bunch there is a plugin called valvewarmer in sonicbirth use this on your final mix gently and hear how the music is binding well.
A good subbass track will also make the track sound round and balanced……try thinking enginering when laying tracks and mixing then you will have very little on engineering part …….already these day we dont have the hassle of micing an instrument etc.
one last trick on composition is the melodic content of the song itself it is like an important story line of a movie.
keep the good work up,
Maruthi

Great work, enjoyed it very much.
The song supposed to energy and bubbly but to me it sounded little sad, may be becoz of minor chord progs underlying the melody?
Cheers to your for brining in more original compositions.
Looking forward to hear more from you.

Wow! So many comments within a short span of time. I think including Rashmi’s name in the song’s title has done its job! I am glad you all liked it!!
@ Mohd, Tara, Kumar, Meena, Sushane, Thinkal, Radhika, Kumuranm, NVK and Ahmed- Very happy to know that you all enjoyed it! Thanks!!
Subbu, Thanks a lot. Yes, that panning was intentional. I wanted to separate out the slap bass from the synth lead. Panning bass will make it to sound odd. So kept it at the center and panned the lead! I need to start thinking about the album after uploading 6 or so songs on Muziboo!
Srini, Ramya,
Thanks so much for the feedback. I am not surprised by the fact you see some Ilayaraja tints in this song! ’coz he is my God, he is my Guru, he is my library….! But, I will try to avoid it in my future compositions:) Special thanks to Srini for adding it to your favourites
George,
Thanks for the pointer. Yes, I agree with you…I will correct the reverb and reupload it tonight.
Satish, Maruthi, Ganesh
I am still struggling with my Garageband software on a very old 512 mb mac. Even if I add EQs to more than 2 tracks, the software hangs. So, I really tried hard to keep a balance. Thanks for those useful suggestions Maruthi. I am saving money to buy a mac pro. Poor grad student man – will take time to buy stuffs!!
Also regarding the sad tint of the song – yes, I have used minor chords throughout which I thought will give a ‘feminine touch’ in the song’s mood. But, when I wrote the lyrics I was in a very different mood. This is a very good lesson for me. From now on I am going to write the lyrics as soon as I finish the song or at least make some notes of the message I need to convey!
When I finished this song, I felt someone might point out the “minor scale” sadness issues and soft synth issues and thought may be not!! Our muzibooians are very brilliant. Can’t hide anything from them!!

Well harmonized and excellent singing. Needs a little more dynamics to bring out the feel. As Maruthi mentioned needs a mix down as well.
I think Rashmi has the most number of originals in Muziboo, is that correct ?.

For a 512 mb mac, what you have achieved is really excellent. IR is a giant whose shadow is difficult to get out of. Your chord progressions were very reminiscent of vintage IR (of course karpoora mullai ondru song).
Lyrics are pretty nice although they are a bit of a mixed bag. Lines like paniththuLiyil bimbam paarrpEn are very nice. However, thaan thandhaanE type fillers do not sound very convincing. Also, a strong adherence to rhyme is not encouraged at the expense of imagination.
I found Rashmi’s singing a little less energetic than what the song required although her tone as always is sweet.

Balamurali Balu,
Excellent work. Beautiful lyrics , melodious music and nice arrangement. Now a days we don’t get chance to listen to such melodies especially from Tamil music. In 80’s Ilayaraja had created a diff trend. Fortunately, in Malayalam still he is active.
Talking about your composition, I liked the interludes. In the anupallavi and charanams- the effects of guitar were really good.
Rashmiji,
Wonderful rendition. You sound like chinnakuyil chitra in the earlier days.
Thoroughly enjoyed this fresh music.

Hi Bala…. Superb Composition, brilliant arrangement! Rashmi’s voice is so sweet. But I felt she could have tried bit more expressive singing. I felt a bit energy level is needed for this type of song. And could have sung with a bit open throat that controlled voice. Just my humble view,as a layman… Please excuse if I am wrong!
Altogether Great team work !
