Korvai 1 - Aadhi Thalam (Mridhangam) - Reuploaded after mixing by Nanda
Korvai 1 - Aadhi Thalam (Mr... Lyrics & Chords
Got a Pro membership here with the hope that I would be able to get my Mridhangam from India. But coudn’t. Got an Iraval Mridhangam. No Srudhi Kattai and even lesser practice. So the unique Arai Chaappu of the Mridhangam which sounds “Jouineeee… Jouineee….” is sounding like “DUB. DUB” of the Ganjeera. All else is hunky dory and the Palakkat Raghu in me is at peace with self. – After the first Theermanam missed 2 atcharams. Never mind.
Thanks to fellow Muzibian Nanda who did the mixing for me.

Hahaha, loved your write up Arun :))
Was nice to listen to a live mrudangam piece after a long while! Do keep the Palghat Raghu in you alive :)
And I have managed to secure a track for the song you requested. Now, all I need to do is learn it and deliver it :D

Thanks Meera for your comments.
Yeh Zindagee usee ki hai is what I wanted…. eons back…….Almost forgot……. I know you are not alone in this; the Bay Area Muzibian community is a racket…… Last heard, Nithya Bayya has acquired a shoot at sight order for all requests originating from the East……Had ever since promised myself that I’d take the moral high route, that I’d never drop a hint to you ladies, to remind you of your promises……Had kept it up, this cathartic outburst apart :-)

Hey Arun ….nice to see youR first post. I didt know that you could play the mridangam. This was a nice start, the good thing about DALLAS is that the warmth will keep this tuned ….unlike Cincy.
Maybe u should team up with some guitarist, violinst….come out with some fusion.:-)

Good work. It’s a bit short as when coming to the mood the flow stopped. What do you mean by Korvai, please explain.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.
@Mohan: The tamil word “Korvai” means “Cogent”. In Mridhangam it means, something that when played once, from start to end, will last an integer times the full thaalam. Here this Korvai lasts 4 rounds of the Adhithaalam (which you may know is 8 beats). So, 4 times 8 = 32 beats is how long this particular Korvai lasts when played once. But it is customary to play it 3 times on the trot.
0.46 First play of the Korvai starts
1.24, 1.44 Second and Third plays respectively (the repetitions)
Pardon the adolescent language here, have never explained this to anyone in Tamil leave alone English.

A little reverb would go a long way…. I can do it for you if you want…. Or just increase the gain and go away from the mic that would give it some room.
Nanda.

Hi Arun, nice work, but it was cut short when i really started to get into the mood. I was expecting a fireworks muthayippu at the end! As suggested here by others, try to do some combination work with other artists-traditional or fusion. keep it going…….
