=========
A timeless song which because of its lyrical elegance and unrivalled compositional beauty, stands out as one of the greatest songs ever to grace Malayalam film songs. The composer Baburaj was a melody weaver (not a maker) of the highest calibre in my humble opinion. His songs like “thaLiritta kinaakkaL than” (S.Janaki) , “praNasakhi njaan verumoru” (KJY) are some which “ariyaadhE…en aathmaavil chiragu kudanjOr azagu” kaL (the beauties which titillate the aathma with a feather without we realizing it). For those who do not understand Malayalam let me write down the meaning of this splendiferous lyrics- you can pretty much sing these lyrics ini the original tune)
Pallavi:
=
thaamadham Eno varavE
uyirththOZi endhan munnE
thaamadham Eno varavE
anburuvE endhan kaNNil
Charanam 2:
=====
thaLirudal iLagi undhan
thangavaLai kilungiyadhE
poonjOlai kaattil undhan
kaalkolusum kulungiyadhE
paaloLi chandiranil -un
punnagaiyum kaNdu nindrEn
paadhi raa thendralil un
pattudai vilagiyadhE
No wonder Prabha chEchi fell for DasEttan listening to such songs :) I don’t think the way I have sung is anywhere near what Dasettan’s style….hmm… This was recorded in 2004.
Let me know if you folks like it.

Murali – Very nice one. Wish some sangathis were more clearer. Thanks for the translation, u skipped charanam1?! I am glad that I am familiar with some songs like thaLirita, ariyathe which you have mentioned.

Muraliji,
Great Singing. But felt the typical mallu feel for this song was missing. The way you pronounced “Thaamasam” ,“munnil” and “patturumal” felt a bit odd to my ears. But good dynamics.

Rahul

Unni :
Can you tell me what you wanted me to change in the ending ?
Ramya:
I thought this was one of those better songs of mine in which I had clearer sangathis. The charanam 1 is hemanta yamini.
Venkat:
Very glad to know it made a reasonable impression on you. Welcome to my music space.

Murali….
I have heard this about 2 years ago in esnips.
You have sung as usual Extremely well – but in your own way and style, which I am not very much in agreement as I feel the punch in the song getting diluted or lost when you change the original style… You have given your own variations to the sangatis and thankfully the mood has been retained…:)
Having said all the above i still enjoyed it since your singing was absolutely awesome…Others have said about the Diction already.

Murali Excellent song….and very well rendered. The feel was beautiful….I agree with Ramya though. The Sangathis could be more clearer….Places where the some micro Sangathis make one big sangathi were a bit shady. For example….
Prema Mayi……
Yende Kannil… (all the way this sangathi was shady)
The ending….varoooo….vai sangathi….
I guess if you re record this song you will do a much better job. Why don’t you try that?

Murali….nice singing! happy to listen to your malayalam renditions…!
I have read that baburaj tried many prominent singers of those times…and Only yesudas could sing it to the perfection he was demanding…This song is one among the initial songs of yesudas…
Good Job !

Priya : Thanks.
Vamsi and Ramya:
It was a time when I was discovering my own singing. I was heavily into listening to Yesudas for many years and then switched to SPB. I was also getting highly influenced by bangla songs of Ajoy and others. Early yesudas songs sounded a bit nasal and with quite some tremolo. So while contemplating which style to follow I was at loss since I was trying to sing with a heavy tremolo in my voice which was naturally non-existent. Thus some of the sangathis which could have been crisper, could have become muddled. These days I am more comfortable singing the songs in my own way without relying heavily on the original singer’s renditions.
Rajesh:
Good to see you around :) thanks.

Murali first I appreciate you for the selection of this number of KJY.
I liked your rendition and do appreciate your ability to sing songs from diff. lang other than yr mother tongue…. hopefully what I presume is right if your MTon. is not Malayalam.
Fine, I like your concept and love to listen to more of your renditions without relying much on the original singer – that is where our inner talent is exposed and I look for such CREATIVITY!
Once again appreciate your time and effort!
Good luck

Murali – lovely song. Thanks for singing this – one of my all time favs of MSB.
Noticed a few variations in your version, but i thought you made the song your own and also liked your take. Since am too fond of the song, i discounted diction issues while listening :) .

Priya and Radhika : Thanks a lot. I am not a native malayalam speaker although I understand it very well and also can read slowly. Good to know you enjoyed it.
Bala (composer/producer) said
Very nice rendition Murali! I felt some sangathis could have been done better considering your other renditions. The recording was poor. The volume levels for the track was fine (the interludes are clear). But when you sing higher notes, the combined volume (vocals + track) shoots up and gives a little distortion….

Murali ……one of my fathers favourites. …also grew up listening to it. As noted above there were some variations from the original ….but you maintained the soul of the original. Hence was not really distracted, very nice expressions. However I will agree with Bala, the recording quality could be better.
5/5 from me.

Murali I am first in your page. You have a very good voice and quality singing too. Such a difficult song this, expecially with a Ghazal touch. You have maintained the mood of the song. The mixing could have been little better. You have little improvised the song from the original. Enjoyed much
