After quite a hiatus, I am posting a song of mine. This was recorded in aug 2009 with Pradip but is getting posted only now. This song is one of those rare songs in which two giants of south indian music shook hands vigorously and interlaced their voices seamlessly. Yesudas assumes the role of a classically trained singer competing with SPB who represents a lay person singing out of “kELvi jnaanam”. The argument is built well through the lyrics, reaches a crescendo and ends in KJY accepting that kELvi jnaanam is sufficient.
However that is a tale of KJY and SPB. Here it is one of Pradip and Murali. Hence, the end result is different. Here Pradip has managed to impress on me how much classical training is important.
Can thunder sing a melody ?
If you want answer for this question you must listen to Pradip in this song. In what seems to have been the most melodious lion’s roar I have heard till date, Pradip has used his commanding voice to send a chill down the spines of lesser singers like yours truly. In what has been my long standing ambitious desire to collaborate with Pradip on some male duets, I have been made to realize how much I lack emphasis in my singing. And Pradip in his own inimitable and warm hearted way did not “tell” me this, but just sang his portion in such a way that I just sat dumbstruck wondering what I should do.

I am in awe listening to the two of you. You were calm and I liked that. But at times I felt that trying to invoke that serene feel was creating a monotony. But the portion were you both were singing back to back was nice. I found a slight issue in your voice at “isai thaaney….”

Pradip Ettan – This one of your best cover versions till date. You have yet again taken up a challenging song and delivered it par excellence.

felt a softness in your voice in this rendition. Which was lovely……even though a few breath problems were evident @ 1.44 and 1.46 and it was totally understandable because it was after that lovely aalap. and shows that you have done this rendition in one stretch at that place.

Your kind words humble me.
The reason I delayed posting this was because I feel I have done only an average job (especially when juxtaposed with Pradip’s) and that you all should not be subject to an effort which is not good enough.
And the only reason I posted this is because in an effort to hide my lowly rendition, I was depriving you all of Pradip’s excellent rendition and the guilt inside me was irrepressible.
