Tyagaraja Aradhana in Muziboo
Murali Venkatraman posted
The commemorative music festival is held every year at Thiruvaiyaru in the months of January to February in Tyagaraja’s honour. This is a week-long festival of music where various Carnatic musicians from all over the world converge at his resting place. On the Pushya Bahula Panchami3, thousands of people and hundreds of Carnatic musicians sing the five Pancharatna Kritis in unison, with the accompaniment of a large bank of accompanists on violins, flutes, nagasvarams, mridangams and ghatams.
Muziboo or the connected audioblog world is not very different from the thousands of scattered carnatic musicians all over the world. Most of the muziboo musicians are classically trained in carnatic and in a discussion with Srividya and Praveenkrishna, the idea that we could have an online ensemble of pancharatna krithis delivered by all of us dawned. Anybody who is a singer or plays a musical instrument could join. The initial track will be made by (at least for one pancharatna krithi) by Praveen and we can all synch and sing our version on it.
People like Pradip Somasundaran, Murali ramanathan and sindhuja Bhaktavatsalam who have had extensive carnatic training can lead us from the front. Final mixing, mastering could be done by somebody and the song can be published on the day of Tyagaraja festival.
All those singers and musicians who want to join this cause, please email me at muralidotvenkatramanatyahoodotcom
