It’s a little exciting for me to be trying out something different for the “Cross Pollination Season”!
I loved the idea of male singers rendering songs originally by female artistes and vice versa. It not only brings out the individuality of the person but also allows for a lot of creativity, enabling one to present a version that he/ she may have perceived.
Every original song has a context and has been tailor-made for the singer in most cases and hence it maybe a challenge to adapt to a female/male rendition as the case may be. Some songs have common themes and neutral lyrics, which solves the issue of having to amend lyrics. But even then, the feel in the song will vary considerably when rendered by the opposite sex. Sometimes, the nuances in the song may suit a singer and may have to be tweaked for the female version.Hariharan’s “Mudhal Mudhalil paarthen” had entirely different sangathis when compared to Chithra’s- both delectable in their own way.
This is my take on this famous melody rendered soulfully by KJYesudas. I was inspired by Kumaran’s version of this song! I have taken the liberty to sing a couple of nuances differently from the original, which I always avoid! As I said, I was trying to experiment with some “feminine” sangathis :D to suit the mood!
This movie made a deep impact on me for several reasons. Although I do not approve of stereotyping people because of their gender and am completely against the heroine’s pessimistic views, I do appreciate her frankness and boldness which I so wish I could emulate. This song is such a beautiful romantic one that alludes to trust, support and unconditional love which, contradictorily, the guy fails to give the heroine!!! Irony of sorts!!!
My sincere thanks to Kumaran for the track and inspiration and to Anbu aNNa for mixing this song so beautifully amidst his hectic schedule within a day of sending it to him.

after listening to your cover, i felt that they could have easiliy introduced a female version of this song into the movie. it would have also been a big hit. like we have had many movies that have the same song-happy one and the sad one kinda thing…you sounded beau and this song is exceptional.

I have always heard you sing which has a lot of harkats….and twists. Would like to hear a song which has relatively not much of these but sheer feel and voice dynamics…like waqt ne kiya by geeta dutt or chain se hum ko kabhi….you can do it Adithi :)
