Taal Fusion- A Percussion Ensemble by "i4Drum"

Taal Fusion- A Percussion ... Lyrics & Chords

This is an excerpt from a 45-minute live recording of the band “i4Drum” based in Dublin.

The band was formed by four music enthusiasts who were brought together for a live show in Dublin. They come from India, Italy and Ireland which explains the nomenclature. There are amateurs and semi professionals in the band. They play Indian, Middle Eastern, Celtic ,African and Western percussion instruments and are still exploring different others to bring into their ensemble.

Koushik Chandrashekar on the Mridangam, Dholak

Michele Scala on the Darbuka, Drums

Brian Fleming on the Bodhran, Bones, Cajon

Sadanand aka Colm Magee on the Tabla, Djembe

I4Drum are releasing their first album shortly. They are also playing at the Dun Laoghaire International Festival of World Cultures later this month.

Please do leave a comment if you like this piece :) Thanks for listening :)

P.S: What is this post doing in my page??? Well, I am married to the Mridangist of the band :D

First, appriciate the great idea and effort for this fusion work. (any theme name?). Great integration of percusion intrument performance by the artists, best wishes to the team…

Some parts the harmony of the instruments didn’t sync it well, may be i’m wrong MHO. Tabla/Mirundhangam base (dunga) volume shoule be better… Album la bettera irrukumnnu nenaikiren. since live recording no more nitpicks… Hope you will upload the studio one… waiting on it…

Thanks adithi, to bring a different flavour to the community.

Best wishes to the i4Drum team.

Awesome…. What a tight timing and sync! Just LOVED IT!!

The Mirudhangam tones you hear in the first interlude of Go Green song was sampled from the prelude of this song:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XggLneREq7g I chopped off every single note in that mirudhangam prelude. Took a bunch of good notes and assigned it to the patches of the this pad (http://www.synthtopia.com/content/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/alesis-percussion-pad.jpg), played and recorded……phewww…. too much work

If I had known about your hubby’s talent, I would have skipped all these steps!!

Obviously to my favorites!!

Adithi, Can appreciate this since I used to be a percussionist long back and had tried these kind of fusion experiments with my friends. Very imaginative blending of various taals and instruments. Like it more because it is not noisy like some of the contemporary stuff. The climax was superb! Please convey my congratulations and best wishes to to Koushik and his talented team.

Wow, awesome team work for people coming from different cities!!
And lucky you Adithi, for having a cool Mridangist in your hubby…. :))
Plethora of percussion instruments, very interesting to hear them all….in a few portions, guess I couldn’t recognize each instrument that was playing, except for the mridangam, tabla and drums (coz these are what we’re most used to hearing in Indian music….)
Most enjoyed portions -
1:17 – 1:26, 1:48 – 2:28, the change of pace from 2:46 and crescendo to 4:00. From 5:25 felt like a new piece. And the final build up and last crescendo from 7:04 were awesome! :)
My compliments to all the percussionists on the superb performance! :)

I’m a huge fan of percussions. Though i’m not trained, that is the only thing that I’m confident with in music creation :). College’la bench la pota thaalam ellaam dhaan training :).

Adithi, enna ippadi oru vidhwaan veetlayae irukkira matter sollavae illayae :). Fantastic to listen to koushik’s Mridangam and great work by all other percussionists too. Wow, I listened to it once but wanted to hear it in my phone but I don’t see a download :(. hmmm Anyways, vettukku ponaa I’ll hear it a few more time, mainly to identify each sounds in detail :).

Great post and thanks for sharing. It was lovely. You should do a vocal + Mridangam kind of unplugged soon :). Choice of song would be Minsaara Kannaa from Padayappa. It has excellent Mridangam in that song. I’m sure your voice can reach the levels of Nithyasree….
