WOW!!! Time to add another song to my favourites.

Rajkumar — Amazing rendition almost equaling ur “Mudhal Mudhalil” which was just out of this world. Very well felt.

Adithi — Amazing as well. Very nice expressions and of course no need to comment about ur carnatic prowess.

A few comments:

Raj — In some places, it seemed as though u were loosing ur breath towards the end of sentences. The very last sangathi was a little different from the original but sounded very nice as well.

Ahaa— what a song to pick!?

Adithi— your voice is nice in this, slight jarring felt at times, but then pretty negligible. Absolutely smooth delivery…. However, your maalai ( the maa ) felt swallowed more often than not :D

Raj— Nicely done, however felt your voice was a little hollow. Again, this maybe a recording issue or mixing. Your emoting got better as the song progressed. Think smiling while singing would have helped this song :P

@Vishnu! Thanks a lot dear for mixing this rendition. I know how painful it would have been working on my part of this cover. Its high time that I have to upgrade my recording gear. A Rasool Pookutty in the making ;-) lol

@Vishak! I record all the songs in a single stretch. Right from the first second till the last second. It s the way I have been following in recording my songs. And so u could have noticed the breath losing out at some places. I have to improve my breath control. Thanks for pointing it out.

@Meera! I agree with u that Adithi’s voice seemed to be jarring at few places. Thats due to the mic she uses. Lol. She has to upgrade that as well but she is pestering me alone to go for it. But her part totally eclipsed my presence through-out. And with regard to the expressions part of this sing, I missed out the expressions totally at the very beginning as I was not confident at all rendering for this number with a classical base. Then I managed. Anyways I have plans of re-uploading it in a couple of days after I upgrade my recording gear. Thanks for the pointers.

Great song selection as every one has already said :-). What a beautiful composition this is by IR.

Both of you rendered your parts wonderfully well. Raj, felt you could modulate your voice some more to enunciate the expressions a bit more (based on your previous renditions). Adithi, your vocal clarity was great and sangathis were crisp. Only felt energy level could be higher. May be the track speed is slower than the original and that gave me the lower energy feel.

Overall, great job but both of you have the potential to do better.

Both SPB, Chitra, Ilayaraja and Vaali would have given their best in this song. The total song is running in my eyes now. Just closed the eyes and I could visualise the full song. WOW. You guys took me back to nostalgic days.

Both have a very good voice but I would say the lady voice has taken over in this song :) But given the fact that Raj doen not know carnatic music, its a great attempt. Even I don’t know carnatic music but I always want to sing this song. could you please send me the original karaoke track pls?

Raj – I felt you struggled a little bit on the lower notes I felt. e.g Neramithu…felt a bit of strain there.But his sangathis are always awesome…You are a brilliant singer and always a pleasure to hear.Last sangathi was bit different from the original. But it was good in its own way….I agree with Rajeev sir that it can be even more perfect because you can definitely do it.

Lack of schooling is not a serious impediment since you seem to have a good ear and a good voice to go with it. So you are effortlessly picking up the sangathis that SPB has thrown in. Very good singing for most of the song except for 2 things :

1. maaRan kaNai vandhu maarbinil paayudhu
2. Almost the entire song has been delivered with no volume curves. Some modulations would be nice.

Places which I rewound and listened to:

all your sangathis (aah) especially the last one. Excellent.

Adithi : Totally enjoyed your portion ! One of your most melodious renditions. Jarring in high notes does not steal your thunder.

adithi and raj nice song to render ……slightest bit of heart is missing….Raj note clear pannidunga raj ( pa, ma, pa, dha, pa ,ma, ga ,sa = thanimayum nerungida) last sa badila ga paditengannu nenaikkaraen . many places in fast pace were similar to above raj.
Pesakandu and undhan koondhal konjam innum kuzhaiva……

I can hear denvendrans composition "kannukkul nooru nilava " from vedham puthithu ……sayal in this composition. Though both are different raga. The flow are the same in the pallavi.

I am so glad you are taking all the constructive criticism in the right spirit- I was beginning to worry that you maybe getting too comfy with all the showers of praise for your previous renditions. I will be happiest if all these comments would have, by now driven you straight to the Mic store! :D

I have to say just one thing about the feedback on your modulations and feel to have to be better :
Every singer has a comfortable pitch to sing in. Luckily for you that bandwidth is quite wide. But I think you handle higher pitches quite comfortably and that is were you emote and perform best. Your modulations are topnotch in the higher shruthi. The only thing you have to work on is to try and bring the same feel/modulation when you are singing in the lower pitches- just like how KJY does.

If we had tried the same song in 1 scale higher, you would have outshone your current performance(but i might have had to undergo a surgery after that….LOL!).

I consider it a big achievement to have sung with a singer like you! :)

I think most things are covered upstairs so will restrict my comment to:
- Well done Raj and Adithi … both of you have sung very well
- However expression was missing from both of you. This is a kurumbu song (naughty song!) so the appropriate expressions and volume modulations were missing (I think Murali and Subbu have pointed this out above). I would go beyond that by saying that it is very important to strive for it despite our voice limitations … all I want to hear is the trying part … instead it was safeplay for the most part and this was a bit disappointing when compared to the original … not that we copy it word for word but the expression has been carefully crafted in the original which has not been emulated. My humble opinion and hope you take it in the right stride.

Otherwise a very good cover and well done to both without labouring anymore points!.

Like Adithi said, the ragam Lalitha is a very less popular especially because the M is very tricky, and songs usually always revolve around that M! (Speaking of which, Raj, the last Idhazhil slipped just around that same darn M and D… :))
Beautiful singing….and most expressions were in place. I can’t comment too much about the mixing and techniques, but could make out that both your voices were not uniformly matched. Don’t know to say more…
Kudos for such a wonderful result on a Tough song with a capital T! :)

woowwww:) magical… amazingg feel… loved the performance… there are subtle smiles that SPB does in hte song if i remember… higher notes were very gud. Raj, brings in his own amazing feel factor in to any song, which makes it special. loved this performance.

Jumped into this rendition from nowhere…stunned by the quality of the rendition by both of you. Having everything said about the technical aspects and nitpicks of this song by more qualified and established singers, have nothing to say other than the “fully satisfied” feel in listening to this classical song. Only thing, is the lyric “Moham Neruppaanaal Athai Theerkum” instead of “Moham Neruppaaga Athai Theerkum”. This is what I remember. May be wrong too.
