He Ghanashyaama - KizhakkuNarum Pakshi
He Ghanashyaama - KizhakkuN... Lyrics & Chords
I thought I will try out a Malayalam cover this time (taking a short break from unplugged versions LOL).
I simply love this Charukesi classic! It so happens to be another magic combo of K.S.Chithra- Raveendran Maash like the last one I sang (Arivin Nilaave) in a movie of my fav Lalettan ;)
This song perhaps took the most time to do because everytime I sang Krishna, I was choked with tears and could not proceed further. Also not to mention how I was constantly bugged by the gross injustice God (or what some call Nature) did by bestowing all His grace to Chithraji and leaving me with this gross deficiency in my voice.
If you have heard the original, you would also have wondered how she emotes differently each time she sings “Krishna”. Soulful music!
I want to thank my friend Abhilash Edathil for taking the pains to correct my Malayalam diction. LOL, Abhi, on how you were trying to explain “nhi” to me! :)
I feel I have given this my best shot! Please let me have your comments. And, as always, thanks for listening! :)

Adithiji,
First of all thanks for singing one of my favorite K.S Chithra and Ravindran Maash combinations. You don’t have worry about what God gave Chithraji. He has given you have enough. The diction had no issues as far I heard :-).5/5. Great singing.

The sangathi in He……is very nice…It has come out perfectly.
I felt like slightly off pitch in many places…its bit flat in many places…The sangathi in Thulasi malayaniyan could have been better i felt.
Overall very good…its not an easy song to cover.

Hey Adithi:
This seems to be probably one of the very very tough songs to cover and you have done an awesome job in doing this. I am amazed by your range and singing capabilities, Adithi!!!! Recording could have been better though, your voice is not coming out clearly in the mix.

I had considered reducing the scale and then gave up the idea because I felt that the effectiveness of the song may be compromised. Nevertheless, all comments and suggestions are very welcome. Thanks again for the same.

Adithi ….awesome rendition ….I totally agree to your decision to sing this at the original scale ….the power of the rendition would have been definitely compromised otherwise. You have a very powerful voice ….but stay a little away from the mic when you record ….:-) It will add more clarity to your vocals.
5/5 from me ……for this powerful rendition.

Wow….Amazing song (one of the bests of Chithra) and equally amazing and Brilliant rendition by you… Loved it all the way. Attempting a song of this type is by itself a great achievement . And doing it so perfectly is just wonderful. Slight problems as mentioned above are not at all worth mentioning as the feel, the emotions and the beauty of the composition was maintained perfectly throughout the song. The ‘Hey…….’ was SUPERB….
Straight away goes to my favourites

VERY NICE COVER INDEED ADITHI , THIS IS AN OUT OF THE BOX COMPOSITION FROM RAVINDRAN……AND ALSO IT HAS THE SAME SIDE EFFECT OF THAT….ITS HARD TO DIGEST ON FIRST LISTEN. CHARUKESI NOTES AND CHAKRAVAKAM SAYAL IS THE KIND OF MANIPULATION USED ON COMPOSITION……THIS IS MATURITY IN HIS COMPOSITION REALLY SHINED TO KICK HIMSELF OUT OF THE USUAL CROWD……U R SURE NOT AN USUAL SINGER ADITHI. i AM NOT SURE WITH MY SPEAKERS AT CHENNAI ….I AM HEARING COUPLE OF OFFS HEAR AND THERE….IS THAT JUST ME….?

Adithi,
Firstly Kudos for attempting this tough song. Very well sung overall. Your starts (Ye….Ghanshyama) was consistently superb. I did feel the range was a bit high for you. Not sure if it was the language barrier, but felt you were a bit tentative (not free flowing singing as in Ezhu Swarangalil) especially in the second line of both charanams.
Subbu said
Wow Aditi ……never knew this song which sounds off beat(in English:)) and tough….but sounds very nice in your voice….just loved the starts in every charanam and pallavi….it was superb….thanks

I just can’t imagine someone doing these sangathis with such ease!! Kudos Adithi— bows bows to you for doing this song. Very nicely done. The only thing that you might want to take care the next time you record though is the jarring and the clipping that is happening at higher registers.
Former is to go away from the mic when recording. Try a few samples and take a note of what distance works for your voice. Clipping happens in higher registers when you are too close to the mic and give your full volume. So, do go a little away when you go to the higher registers. It is sure to help. It did for me :P So first hand experience!!
5/5 and definitely goes to my fav’s!
Again— I just can’t b’ve you attempted this song LOL

Tough song but very well rendered. :-) Very good job Adithi. You are right about Chitra singing “Krishna” in this song, but not just this one, listen to any song of Chitra singing about Krishna (the best example would be from the movie Nandanam) and she somehow has such a devotional feel in her voice. Such a wonderful singer she is!

Hi Adithi, A tough song beautifully rendered only by someone as well trained as you can. You were exceptionally good at the “Hey….” keeping up with all the nuances. You can sound much better if the recording quality were improved. Try singing in a professional studio.

Adithi, technically I think you’re one of the strongest singers we have :) Brighas are spot on, you almost never miss a note. Very precise and sharp which is quite hard to come by….
The only (important though) thing I sometimes find lacking a bit is the feel. I enjoyed this song more than your others on that aspect as well :)

Hi Adithiji!
One of my most fav songs by Chitraji!! Recently Chitraji performed the pallavi of the song in an Episode of Idea Star Singer! With the simple chords played in the background, the song sounded so divine in her voice that day! I was so moved… Almost had tears in my eyes for the way she sang it!
Nevertheless to say, you did a fabulous job!!!
I feel a lil more softness if brought to the voice in some places, would help you bring a lil more feel and would have added more beauty to your already beautiful singing! :)
Loved it! 5/5 for even attempting this masterpiece and also for your singing! Goes straight to my favs!

Got to listen finally. Your diction in malayalam has improved considerably . We can catch up sometime on chat for a few pointers on this. Singing was very very good.
This is an ok composition from Raveendran although Chitra’s rendition takes it to an unbelievable level. I was particularly waiting for thuLasi maalagaL aNi"yaa…aan" and you did it very impressively.
Some minor uncertainties:
1. aashaadam at 2:33
2. oro jenmamum
