Hi Everybody :)

My name is Aarti and I just joined Muziboo last night!

I’am from Bangalore originally and now settled in Connecticut. I have a wonderful family comprising of my hubby and 2 kids aged 2 and 6 respectively.

My hobbies include music, reading and arts & crafts mainly. I also enjoy travelling and socializing.

15 years ago I used to be a lead singer with our collage music band (Manipal, WGSHA) and we used to tour and perform in several locations including Jaipur.

Like I said, this is all 15 years ago!!!All those glory days have come to a screeching halt now, and I’am afraid I’m a little rusty these days.

My intention is to slowly re-kindle what I have lost with karaoke.(my former band members have diversified all over the world and some of them have completely walked off the face of Earth!)Needless to say, gathering them into one spot would be a marathon effert!

My interests are mainly English numbers. I love oldies like the Carpenters, Anne Murry, Simon & Garfunkle, ABBA, Jim Reeves, Demis Rousso Etc.

I also love, Rock,Pop and New age. Some of my faves are Sting, Dire Straits, Floyd, Eagles, U2, A-ha, Enya etc …. In recent times, I have fallen in love with the music of Coldplay :) I would really like to do some of these numbers on Karaoke, which leads me to the next question ……

HOW??? Can someone please help me out here? Where can I get good karaoke tracks? Do I need to buy any equipment? What do I need to get started?

Please advice and thanks for all the help in getting me statred on my once cherished, long forgotten hobby-Singing!

Looking foward to a fun, friends filled, stimulating musical experience.

Cheers,
Aarti

Hi Aarti,
Welcome to Muziboo. I am sure you will enjoy this online community. There are a number of websites where you can download thee karaoke tracks for free like 4shared , e-snips. Some of the music you mention might also be available at ez-tracks.com

To record you will need an external sound card , a microphone and software to mix the tracks. You will also need a set of good quality headphones.

I have a TASCAM US 122L External USB Sound Card, a Shure SM 58 Dynamic Mic , Cubase LE software9 came with the sound card), running on Vista Desktop. I like them so far.
Please feel free to post any q’s that you might have…

Hoping to hear some good stuff from you. Enjoy….

Thanks a ton Rajesh, and great to hear from you. I will get all the stuff shortly. btw, what is “mixing the tracks” all about? You mean blending the music and voice together? (I’am blindly guessing here!)

Thanks
Aarti

Yes. I meant , merging the Karaoke Music & your Voice track.

In Cubase , You create a project , then you add the Karaoke track in “stereo mode”.

You , then add , a track in “mono” mode for the “Voice” you are about to record. Once done recording, you can “Merge” them together.

It will take couple of tries, but pretty simple once you get the hang of it…

Hi Rajesh,

I have finally in the process of geting a mike. I’ve been swaying between Shure SM57 and SM58. How is your SM58 holding up? Would you recomend it?

Also, how do you connect this mike to your computer? Do you need a seperate USP port connector? (I don’t think the SM57 or 58 comes with one)

My computer has an internal sound card. Do I also need an external sound card in addition?

Thanks a lot for your inputs :)

:)
