This is another long forgotten simple but sweet song from the 1982 Malayalam movie Njaan Ekanaanu (ഞാന് ഏകനാണ്). Late Shri.M.G.Radhakrishnan had given music to the lyrics of Shri.Sathyan Anthikad.
The meaning of this song goes like this…
Oh night! Tell me,
Can the agony be wiped out
by the gentle caressing of the soft moonlight?
I closed simply long time back
the apertures of my memory!
Can the flower of desire
again blossom in this creeper! – Mind! Oh Mind!
Why the eyes get filled with tears
when the song of the Fallen Flower* is remembered?
The paths have separated in different directions,
Will they again unite at a distance? – Mind! Oh Mind!
*(The Fallen Flower – Veenapoovu by the great poet Kumaaran Aasan is a Malayalam poem written in 1907 which is highly philosophical and an allegory of the transience of the mortal world, which is depicted through the description of the varied stages in the life of a flower.)
And the speciality of this song is that this is the first song of Smt.K.S.Chitra as a play back singer. Today, acclaimed as the Little Cuckoo and the Nightingale of South India, she has recorded more than 18,000 film songs in nearly 10 languages and is a recipient of six National Film Awards, five Filmfare Awards and more than thirty different state film awards.

It’s true…. Even I have felt that many Malayalam movie songs sung by female singers suit well for male voice too.
But it is basically the melody and tempo of the songs that count…
