Clean and crisp recording using Alesis Mixer

Hope you’re all enjoying your creativity!
I want to pick your brain up on recording. How to achieve a good quality, clean and crisp recording on home PC?

I’ve Alesis Multimix 8 USB (See link) http://www.alesis.com/multimix8usb
connected to PC with soundBlaster XFI-Xtreme sound card which comes with 3 modes, Audio creation, Entertainment and Game.

I use Yoga FX-528 dynamic mic which is just like SHURE SM58.
I want to know how to set up the mixer with PC and record clean vocals without effects as I want to add my effects in Nuendo 4. Since I record on home PC I get alot of noise in my recording which is the main issue that I want to avoid/minimise.
