Finally!!
Incidentally, today being MSV’s birthday, I hope this can serve as a passable dedication to his genius!
I’d been wanting to cover and post this song for a long time. I mean, so many female singers
often cover this song anyways. Nothing wrong with one more, right? I sang this about 3 months back with a lot of gusto and was quite satisfied with the output. I was almost going to post it when God decided to bless me with some good sense.
I did one thing right! I sent it to Adithi few months back. She called me right away and
we spoke for about half hr. Her first comments about the song were something like – “This song is a benchmark for female singers, and good singers will take it seriously. People will go through this cover with microscopes and won’t hesitate to criticise over the smallest of slips. So, you need to make sure you put in the efforts the song deserves.” She told me as sweetly and as nicely as possible that I am being rescued from committing a crime… :))
She patiently went over every line, and made me see the song in a whole different way! I then did more versions of the song, and each time bugged her to listen to it and give me feedback. Which she did so promptly, even just before her exams. Thank you so much Adithi!! If my effort now is anywhere close to being acceptable, it is largely because you helped me through it!
So finally, I had an OK green signal. But thankfully by then I’d become smart enough to realise that my mixing skills will be another big screw-up to the song. So, I did the second right thing! I started bugging Raj to help me mix the song. His mistake – agreeing to help me instantly. :)) It was my excuse to bug him so often, am surprised he didn’t get angry and tell me to buzz off! The song survived his sound card crash, and waited to see him get his new PC and software so the output would be good!! Thank you so much Raj for all your patience and time! :))
All said, there is only so much God can do to help. I now have to face the gallows for my original efforts. Taking the plunge and posting it, hoping you’d all listen and give me your sincere feedback and pointers…:))

Shelly – I’ve so far covered songs of a more peppy nature, so maybe am definitely sounding a lot more subdued in this…:) Not sure about the time delay or if its a latency problem….surely, will check it out…thank you!

Husky as well as bold rendering has always been Janaki amma’s specialty and you were no less in this song Rekha. Terrific singing. I’m sorry to be late here but I’m very glad I was able to listen to your singing. Superb!! Keep it up. Its actually driving me crazy coz there so many singing talents here and I feel like using all of them in a single shot :). Enna panradhu. I’m getting greedy lol.

Hey Rekha, nice pick ! Mandatory for all good singers ! :) Very nice singing. Being a big fan of your voice, loved this song in your voice. Nice sangathis well delivered at most places but at a few places you could been tight with the rhythm and the sangathis spilled over a little longer.

It is Ooru (village) sanam (colloquial term for people, but the ‘m’ sound is typically almost omitted from sounding, most cases…)… :)
