I am no fan of SRK or Aishwarya Rai. Quite the opposite, in fact. Again, no special liking towards Kavitha Krishnamurthy’s singing, and certainly not much respect to the ‘creative’ genius of Ismail Darbar. And am not apologetic to those who may feel otherwise too… :D
Q – So why I did this song?
A – Madhuri, Madhuri, Madhuri, Madhuri…….!!!! :)))
I am a crazyfreako fan of Madhuri Dixit. Not just as a dancer, but also as an actress and someone who personifies gracefulness! Been wanting to do one of her songs sometime, and thanks a big bunch to Sudha Kumar who kindly shared this K-track with me. :)
Sudha, I know you’d one day do this with your beautiful Hindustani charm. But please forgive me as I’ve not done this with as much reverence to that science…. :)
This is yet another 1hr afternoon gig. And I’ve also tried to merge the original with the track during the BGMs, so, there might be some evident track overlays. As for my super-famous mixing skills, just hope its sounding audible enough… :)
Hope Madhuri’s image in all your minds can gently override all my slips and flats. Hehehe, jokes apart, would love to hear all your thoughts on this….
PS: The singing starts from about 1:30, the beginning is long, and is same as the original…

First the nitpicks:
1. Offnotes before and at “Nandh ko laal” and a few places after.
2. Some harkats could be better but this is such a difficult song!
3. Oh maayi could have been better
Ippo the best parts!:
1. Dialogue delivery was just awwwwwwwwesome! Felt like getting up and dancing.
2. Voice was like honey in this song. You handled some difficult parts so very beautifully.
3. I share exactly the very same feelings as you do for KK, ARB and Madhuri (but sadly not SRK- I adore him but not for his acting) :D

superb singing rekha. most of the parts were spot on but a few place need correction. your voice was excellent. i love devdas songs and ismail has done a great job in that movie…
BTW, I am also a crazy freako, nacho, macho, wacho fan of Madhuri Dixit :). Damn, if nenanja kozhi Aishwarya Rai could be Miss world, Madhuri should be “Miss Everything”. Madhuri => rambai + menakai + urvashi. No wonder M.F.Hussain tributed so many of his paintings to Madhuri, the gorgeous women of any era.
T.R style’la sonna, “Madhuri, nee vandhaalae naan aagiraen oru Maadhiri :-)”.

Rekha: Lovely song pick and good attempt. I like KK’s voice as it is unique and she has an ability to handle high range. Liked the dialogue delivery and I think you have pointed out the areas of improvement yourself. It is a tough one to attempt and you did a good job. Keep it up.

Superlative effort Rekha! Voice-wise you were very close to Kavita Krish. Do sing it regularly and you can achieve perfection.
This sounded like Raga Basant to me, but if Sudha says it is “Purya Dhanashri”, then it must be :)
