Vedham Anuvanuvuna - Saagara Sangamam Cover by Raja (rough cut)
Vedham Anuvanuvuna - Saagar... Lyrics & Chords
I’ve performed the tamil version of this emotional climax song in my light music shows a few times. I’ve posted the audio extract from my live show in Muziboo @ Vedham Anuvilum Oru – Salangai Oli Cover by Raja with Jayashree (Audio extracted from my light music show). I’ve been looking for this k-track and Vishak Subramoney surprised me one day by sending this k-track in an e-mail. Thank you Vishak. As always, I sang this song in the same session with 2 passes once for SPB’s portions and once for SP Shailaja’s portions. If my voice sounded strained, I apologize. I’ll post a better version when time permits.
Anyone who watches this movie will be in tears during this song. A powerful performance by Kamalhaasan and SP Shailaja in this song with vocals by the legend SPB and SP Shailaja. Ilayaraja has composed the music for this movie and its hard to pick any song as the best because all are so good.
I’ve asked my daughter Aditi Raja to sing the female portions but she is busy with her school homework :)) She goes to 4th grade and is a good singer. I’m in the middle of a singing spree and didn’t want to loose the momentum :)) Since I can’t wait until she sings, I decided to post a rough cut of this song.
Disclaimer: I neither know Telugu nor carnatic although I learnt the basics of carnatic :))

lovely song to sing machi. first of all….kudos for attempting such a number….not the easiest of songs. nobody can sing this like Baalu. u have sung it beautifully.
since u plan to sing this again, here are some of my thoughts to help make this better.
areas of improvement: initial swarams, 1:31 aa, Ni Ri Sa Ni Da Ma Ga (the lower Ga should be reached), diction, alaap of Shailaja (just before 3:16)
towards the end, the clarity of sangathis have decreased which is understandable since u sang it in one take. konjam practice would make this better. this is a very difficult song indeed.
great going. u should record this at home with more clarity and more takes. that would really help.

Hey Vishak, first of all thank you for sending me this track. I’ve noted down your pointers and will definitely fix them soon. Thank you for taking time to listen to my rendition, for nice comments and for the pointers. I’ll not leave this song until I master it and you can count on that.
Machi, thalaivar ennammA feel paNNi pAdiyirukkAru. Also, if you noticed, the tamil version has some slight modifications. For e.g., when Shailaja sings Maathru devo, in telugu there will be a heavy female chorus singin “aaaa” where as in Tamil SPB will sing “mmmm”.

Very interesting write-up, comment from Vishak and your reply to him- I was vehemently nodding in the affirmative while reading them :). Excellent singing for someone who is not trained in classical music!
Magnificent effort! Your diehard attitude is to be appreciated and learnt from. :)

Hi Raja, i have heard u other covers also… n keeping them in mind and your disclaimer n agreeing with above pointers (just nodding which i can do…)… i would say when you try to cover this next time… pls try to get drenched by the diction/words as you have the god blessed talent n with proper diction… would be real REAL treat for all of us… having said that, me being telugu guy cant even cover it 5-10% of what u did… so i applause u for this highly commendable step to cover… All the best… You just cover it fantastically… God bless you.
