This is an awesome composition by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Ace Director Bala gave life to actor Surya in this movie and since then his market has only gone up!!! SPB sang this song so effortlessly in high pitch and it still sounds so melodious. Malgudy Subha sang the chorus portion and Yuvan Shankar Raja sang that “oho oh oh” before the 2nd charaNam. I sang the female chorus and Yuvan’s portions as well.
This is a very difficult song to sing and its very special to me. I sang this song in my audition to join a popular bay area light music band “Surabhee” and got selected :)) Towards the end, someone whistles “Mun Paniyaa” and I can’t do justice to that and hence skipped that. The track ended abruptly without the bar for the last “Mun Paniyaa” after the whistle and hence I added that and finished with last “Mun Paniyaa”.

Wow!!! A valiant pick which most of the singers would dread, even to attempt… :-) I too have this in my wish-list… In fact, this should have come as my 3rd post here in Muziboo but it got dropped luckily… :P Over all, a very good performance covering all the three voices by yourself… I was told SPB after singing this song came to Yuvan screaming, ‘Badavaa!!! intha maathiri paattu poattaa enna inimey koopdaathey!!’ in jest… Such a difficult composition demanding breath-control, sharp ears to grasp those hair-pin turn nuances, emotive voice this is!!! And I feel you could have polished those sustains by the master at the end of every ‘nanaigirathey’… Enjoyed the rest….

@Raj, You’re absolutely correct about this song. andha high pitchla eppadi thalaivar ivvaLavu sangathi pOttirukkArnu nAn malaichi pOyi ninnurukkEn. I picked this song for my audition and hence it is very special to me!!! When I asked SPB about why he is not singing this song on stage, his reaction was exactly what you said. Yuvan compose paNNittu vandhu “uncle indha tune indha scale-la paNNittEn neengadhAn pAdaNumnu sonnAn. inimE indha mAdhiri pOtta ennai koopidadhEnnu” :)) Its very nice to hear that the legend shares such things even with ordinary people like us and no wonder why is admired as not only a great singer but as a great human being and humble to the core. I’ll sing this may be some other time with those suttle sangathis when time permits.

SUPER RAJAMANI….Kalakkal singing…I tried this song quite a few times and found it very difficult in the higher notes and did not want to loose my original voice…
You have done exceptionally well for most portions of SPB…. YSR humming could have been little better….

@Adithi, I was going to bother you for the Subha’s portions :)) YSR has sung some great songs but messed up a few especially singing off-scale :)) My focus was primarily on SPB’s portions because adhukkE thondai thaNNi ellAm pOyidichi. Definite-A YSR mAdhiriyE ohoh pAdi re-post panREn.
@Anbu, Thank you so much for your kind appreciation. Having listened to your other renditons, I’m sure that you can record this one. The only place where it gets really difficult are the lines “puriyAtha uRavil ninREn. aRiyadha sugangaL kanDEn. mAtram thandhavaL needhAnE”. Other than those lines, rest of the song is manageable. I’ll definitely post a better YSR humming soon because I wasn’t too focused on that portion for obvious reasons :)
