Sur Na Sajein Kiya Gaoon Main Lyrics & Chords
Inspired by Mehta Sahab who covered this song recently so nicely I requested him to send me this track. I had heard this song before but could never hum anything past the mukhda. It was only after listening to Mehta Sahab that I realized if I try hard I might be able to do some justice. So Mehta Sahab here this is to continue your quest for Sur songs. Hope you and friends enjoy it as well.
The original song is in the scale of Ebm too high for both Mehta Ji and myself hence I have transposed it down to C#m exactly where he also sang. I had an ambiguity with the words Saje and Sajein as I felt Manna Dey rendered Sajein in his own covers later, to me which appears more appropriate. Manna Dey also corrected the use of word Jhoot in his later versions. This is one word which people often use as JooTH….the Punjabi style….Manna Dey might have picked that up from Shankar Ji for the original. But what a melody and what beautiful lyrics by Sheilendra Ji for film Bassant Bahar 1956.

‘Sur’ ko to aapne agva karke apne kaid mein band kar rakkhe hai, toh wo kaise ‘sajein’?….lol! Song ke title ke bilkul vipreet gaya apne Naqvi bhai! Very charming! Nice alaap and very good ‘harqatein’ throughout the song! Poora gaana aapke poore bas mein raha! The only flaw, in my opinion, was the slight strain felt at ‘dono jahan’ and ‘tere binaa’, on the high scale words jahaaan and binaaa. That is all me Lord!

Dear Mushtaque yar bohut khushi huee tumko passand aaya. Bhai aik thodi 3-4 aisee murkhiyan hain jo main ne miss karein. Shayad 1-2 tu kuch karke laga leita laikin second antare main Hoga wali mere bus ki baat he nahi thi. Issi liye ye geet jaisa main ne description main bhi likha kabhi mukhde se aage gaya he nahi main. Aise geeton ko ganay ke liye dobarah paida hona padega….Lol….aik janam tu kuch bhi nahi.

Thank you Mustafa….rightly pointed. Imagine Manna Dey with 2 notes up was not stressed. That is why we love his voice. I am surprised even in his later versions he maintained the same scale. I have heard some of his own covers which he sang a note below but not this one. I am glad you enjoyed the song.

Well ap ne jin words (diction) ka zikar kiya hai bohot se fellow singers inhain nazar andaz kar dete hain… plural and singular objects ke sath urdu main jo verb ata hai wo different hota hai…. like here in sur na saje and sur also is plural so both saje and sajen will suit anyway that just came in discussion since you mentioned it…. well this song suited much on your voice and the higher notes were just wonderful and you didn’t suppress your voice which was nice…… beautiful singing and complete package Naqvi saheb…. keep sharing like that.

Dear Jivan thank you for listening at your first opportunity. Raag wohi rehta hai bus singer ki tonal characteristics ko saamne rakh kar scale decide kara jaata hai. Pichlae dinon aik female singer se Ja Ja Ja Ja Bewafa 2 notes niche suna thaa laikin singer ki tone aisee zabardust match huee thi ke bilkul patta nahi chala thaa. Agar track bina kisi major artifacts ke up/down ho jaye tu kam chal jata hai warna weaknesses nazar aane lagti hain. Khushi huee pronounciation ka aspect padh kar. Zaroor gao wish list main achha geet hai tumhari.

Bhai Khursheed track transposition up or down can be best achieved by Cakewalk Sonar as it has a very efficient algorithm for accomplishing that. The strains at the high notes was indeed nice because it reminded me that a mortal is singing this song. Aap agar aise sur lagayenge toh hum kya gayenge? Loved it, Goes to my favs too:)

Naqvi saab……a little late here….a bit swamped on the work front. loved your rendition …great soulful rendering….yes there were some slight variations in the notes from the original (thats the way covers are to be sung…its the singers interpretation of the original:)… …the difficult part of the song according to me is not the high pitch areas…but the place after the high pitch…its very difficult to get the landing notes right after the descent…e.g swar ki sadhana….you were great sir……loved it very much….to my favs !!

Aap kuch bhi gayen – aapka Sur bahut khoob sajta hai. This is a class act! One of Manna Dey songs top songs in my opinion.
You had once sung – “Tere Naina Talash” that I love so much. I have it on my portable music device and listen to very often. I believe, after Talat, Manna Dey is the next singer that you sing very well.

Good to see you Deep. Tum masroof rehte ho jiska mujhe andazah hai. Jo ziada zaroori kaam hain woh pehle baad main gaana bajana. Tumne bilkul exact cheez ka zikr kiya “Swar Ki Saadhna Parmeshwar Ki”. Permeshwar ka lafz zindagi main pehli bar adaa kiya thaa….shayad ussko meri yehi baat bha gayee jo kuch ga paya warna kabhi nahi soch thaa issko try karneka. Thank you so much.

Amazing pick and fantastic rendition, Naqviji. I adore this Manna da’s song. You have brought out the intended expression of the agony of a singer very effectively. The tune is bit changed at places like “is raat kaa” and as variation it sounds nice too as your own input.

Thank you Bhai Shailender….good to see you here. Yes Manna Dey songs are very challenging but the only way to figure that out is when we attempt them and praise the guroos for their heavenly voices and control.
