Lai Vi Na gai
Lai Vi Na gai Lyrics & Chords
A Punjabi song this time. I had heard and appreciated this one when the film Chalte Chalte was released in 2003 but never ever consider singing it until one of my friends suggested me to try. Hope you will not mind my Gulabi kind of Punjabi. It has lovely Punjabi folk associated to it, composed by Jatin-Lalit and lyrics by Jawed Akhtar(as per internet search which I doubt very much, it must be some Punjabi writer).
Hope you all enjoy this lovely Sukhvinder Singh song in my voice that is in the scale of F.

Wah Naqvi sahab, what an awesome selection! Glad to be the first to comment! I kind of know who might have suggested this! I love singing this song live as well. It has the Punjabi folk feel to it. You did an awesome job, and your Punjabi diction was pretty good as well! It has a bit high scale but did not feel it any where except at the second “dil tod jaan waliye” where you opted to stay low! You also changed the “Nibhayi bhi na gayi…” at 4:48 and liked your version as well!

Bhai Rajeev thank you so much. You seem to know this song in detail already. Yes this scale gets tricky at higher notes. You know I stay away from the high pitched songs and there were 2 such instances “jahan meri mutt mari gayi thi”….Lol….but it was a wish from a close friend. And right I had changed the track to sing the last Nibhayi the way I wanted to also because the track was a little confusing there, so I came with what you heard and tried to maintain the same folk feel. Thanks for your appreciation.

Thank you Habibi Tahy it is always so encouraging to hear from you. This was a relatively easy Punjabi but some are so complex words that one has to think how to write them in Urdu. In Pakistan Punjabi is written the same way as Urdu. The good part is if you know Urdu you can learn Punjabi very quickly. Thanks again for your kind appreciation.

My God what a song! It is one of my most favourit and same way close to every cell of my being. I remember suggesting this myself to some souls around here as well, a good while ago.
I don’t think it had been covered as yet.
Splendid performance this is. Not that I do not like the SS’s version, but that seems more sung to fit in the movie, with agressive slite pathetical harquets which up to an extend are ok for my ears. Yours is but simple and deep soul packed, sung the way emotions are naturally to be sung out, with no decorations. I didn’t feel any strain in scale. Of course this song does require a specific voice mood, which You have proved fully here!
I am so happy You have covered it, Sir, and so proud this is done so beautifully, as it is a beauty of a melody!!! Loved the “gulaabi” Punjaabi concept in the write up. My facebook wall will be beautifully “Painted” today. Thank You!!!!!

Naqwi’ji……….I too Sing Very few punjabi song’s…And the Best which,I like is the One you have Attempted just…….Such A Co-incidence…
The Original Definitely has So many Modulation’s which Sukhwinder’ji has Done….Which may be Due to the Mixing Skill’s Of the Studio’s…….
But you have Caught the Right mood AS well As the scale of the song…….Even the Diction was just perfect…….Love this song…And Even your Rendition……….
Just sharing……………As far As i know……Singer’s like Sukhwinder,Richa sharma…Even Sonu Nigam……In their Early struggling stages Used to Sing in Jagrataa, which is Mostly Held in punjab & northern-india……….So they have that punjabi folk Accent in their Voice’s………
And this jagrataa is through-out the night……so the Whole night they have to sing & Entertain…which made their Voice’s to Open-up,I Believe…….
Any-way……A wonderful song chosen…And Successfully rendered by you…………Best wishes……….

Ekdam badhiya gaana chuna, Naqvi Saab, and sung in ‘jabardast’ fashion as Adwait puts in. My kids are big fans of Sukhwinderji… he has the most amazing breath control, and he manages the most interesting variations while getting right back on track, again as Latha said. :-)
Loved your take, equally enjoyable in scale F.

Naqvi ji,, I am sorry to be late as I was out of town… Absolutely phenomenal rendition in your peerless voice.
I have not heard the original nor know anything about the song… But all that I can say is that it sounds awesome and the background score and the mixing are all fantastic.
What does the meaning of the song convey?
Is it philosophical or didactic or melancholy?
To me, not knowing the language, it conveys some extraordinary and mystic meaning and I am sure that is the true greatness of music and the power of eminent and exceptional singing.
Best regards,
Giri.

This was a typical Pujabi folk based song covering a broken relationship between a man and his beloved. Very common subject….Lol.

Dear Naqvi Sir, wow, kya gana chuna hai aapne. I absolutely love Sukhwinder Singh’’s songs and this one is no exception. He has a great vocal range and this song of this is also very difficult at the highs and expression wise. You managed the expressions very well and the high notes were done very well too even when your vocal chords were stretched a tad. You being from Pakistan, you punjabi diction is absolutely bliss. Its such a sweet language and I am so blessed to understand it:)
Loved this awesome attempt. Keep singing gems like such and entertaining us all.

Oh Wow, what a Power Packed Performance Naqvi Saab ! kamaal kar ditta tussi….A very close song to my heart, perhaps many hearts….Loved your take on this, fully expressive rendition. There is 1 understandably diction nitpick but that perhaps may not come if you are not born in Punjab… even certain parts of punjab speak such words like you did. That was word “bhull”. But on the contrary I am overjoyed to hear this cover.
Sir, Punjabi mein translation karwana kya mushkil hai bade logon ke liy Ek ko bolo hazaar mil jayenge, Naam to Javed Saab ka hee chalega na….but anyways javed saab ki shayari to laajwaab hai hee.

One of my most fav Sukhwinder songs….liked your cover version a lot, especially your own variations. Tough song (us usual), tons of murkhiyan everywhere, I liked how you handled the sudden pitching (in the original) on “Tod” Jaanwaliye, which is one of his signatures in this song, I think. Your mixing is clear, crisp, and with the right amount of effects. Nice job, Dada!
