Very well sung Maruthi. Your voice resembles Sriram’s voice so much in this song. Just listened to both your versions of this song back to back :-). I can tell you really enjoyed yourself singing this – good feel and modulations were really good. I think the last neela vaana did’nt quite touch the high note.

I think the sincerity in your singing comes through well and you are an astute musician Maruthi. Although you sing nicely, I wish your voice would cooperate more. There is wavering in the voice which is not helping you. I wish you could overcome this with more firmer singing and with more sharper sangathis. Other than this you have done a good job of the song and the spirit of the song is very much there and the feelings in your voice are good.

Good try on this great song. I wouldn’t give my crtique on this as others have already done it, but I would add a few of my thoughts/comments on the song itself: Its a beautiful song, both lyrically and musically….I heard it for the first time just last year and it became an instant favorite of mine. Since its your favorite song, you probably already know about this song… But, for others who don’t know much about this (esp. for Telugu folks, who wouldn’t have heard about this as its Telugu version doesn’t exist as far as I know)— music for this song was composed by Gangai Amaran for the Malayalam version (Neelavaan Cholayil, sung by KJY) and later made into the Tamil (by Ilayaraja with same tune, sung by SPB in Vaazhve Mayam). This composition is based on Aabheri ragam (re: famous Thyagaraja kriti ‘Nagumomu kanaleni’) and there comes most of its beauty from, besides SPB’s sweet expressive voice.
