Alaipayuthey Kanna (Cover) Lyrics & Chords
This originally is a Kriti composed in Kaanada Raagam. A beautiful fusion of this has beed made by ARR in the movie Alaipayuthey. I so totally love this song, both in original and fusion version.

Hi Jane,
Glad to be the first to comment :). Very beautifully sung. Some sangathis really shows u r a trained carnatic singer. I love this song very much and loved ur rendition too. But I could notice some diction issues here n there like, it sounds “ninu” 0:49 should be ninru and need to correct “idhara maadharudan”…
Everything else is superb!! :) keep singing!!

Very good singing. Great voice. It is very tough one. You did a great job Jane. Yes…there were couple of places where you could be better…But considering the song and its tough nature I will give a 5/5 for this creation…
All the best…

Very well sung Jane. Enjoyed it a lot. You choose song that are just right for you. It can be even better though, in places like 1:23-1:25 & 2:54-2:55 I thought you stumbled a little. But I am sure you can correct all that easily.
You sing so beautifully. Keep it up!

- Congratulations for a great track
- I don’t understand the language so I am not too sure bout the diction
- Singing was really nice, but the reverb was kinda killing your voice at certain places
- I would have loved to download a better quality file and listen to it
- I see a lot of mixing issues in this track… Mixing could have improved… Nevertheless it is a great track all in all… Keep up the good job… Cheers… \m/

Good effort Jane. Felt the timing was off when you started (just a tad bit). Your classical training really shows in this. Mix could have been better (one key thing is learning how to make it transparent when recording in multiple takes). I struggle with this too at times. I think mixing skills will get better with time. Good job overall.

Awesome effort, just a few things here and there which would have made it better like what Rashmi has pointed out. Your classical training shows through. Agree with the transparency as well, that George has pointed out.
Nice pick for your voice.

Hi Jane,
Amazed at your rendition of this!. You can belt out a tune with such ease, can’t you?!. That is a talent that is hard to come by and I congratulate you on it!. Tune wise it was near perfect and for the rhythm set, quite apt the way you sung it. Of course if it was a more classical performance with violin and mridangam, the singer will be expected to perform this song more elaborately exploring the intricacies of the kanada scale/raga.
The challenge with this song is that, the short and rhythmic version, does not give you much time to get into depth and you have to be short and sweet with the sangathis … which you have given very well. Your sense of sruthi is good and you do it with good understanding and minimal effort I felt.
Your voice is v.good but the recording has not done justice to your voice. The voice was over-powered by the rhythm and drone … would have been better if it was more at the front of the mix. Not sure what sort of system you are using, but that needs looking into. After the song finished I heard some buzz or what is termed as ‘noise’ in the sound industry. This indicates that your setup is not fully balanced and is prone to distortion … I suspect it is the mic which is not going through a fully balanced setup in terms of its quality and the cables that you use. This is an important area as the source of the recording is important … if the source is poor, no matter what you do with the mixing and mastering is pretty futile. The raw material has to be clean for you to work with.
One other thing I noted in a couple of places was the punch-in recording joins were pretty obvious and you need to do that a bit more smoother without detection to the ears. This is purely a technical point but does take away the charm if it is a bit obvious. Just a matter of placing.
Lastly, I noted that your pronounciation is poor to be honest with you!. Generous errors in diction made it sound non-chalant. This gives away the fact that you do not know the language (it is not a crime not to know it!) and therefore people will tune off the expression; the human mind will make the background judgement that a person who does not know the words themselves cannot breathe any life into it!. Don’t get me wrong here … many singers today sing away and don’t know what they sing … BUT … at least if you make sure your diction is right, then you maintain the perception that you are rendering with feeling and people won’t question any further. Good singers take the pain to learn the pronounciation and understand the meaning of what they are singing. Many have done it in the industry to become leading singers obviously.
My comments invariably end up elaborate, but I prefer to convey as much as possible in my opinion.
In must say you sing very well and keep them coming!.

nice one Jane….liked this…. better mixing will make this sound even better….the shruthi(instrument) often comes across louder than your voice and distracts……Enjoyed it over all

Jane:
you are one of those singers who have a wonderful combination of tone, vocal dexterity and bhaavam. It is pleasure to have you around and listen to your work.
Good to see you attempting this classical song. I am not going to say anything about diction in this rendition because there are too many to point out (and really did not deter me from enjoying your rendition). Hence I shall point out something else which nagged me when I listened.
I am not sure if you are familiar with raga kanada. the swarams as given in Karnatik.com are:
kAnaDA
22 kharaharapriya janya Aa: S R2 G2 M1 D N2 S Av: S N2 P M1 G2 M1 R2 SThe dhaivatham here is the karaharapriya dhaivatham which is D2. And darbari kaanada is:
darbAri kAnaDa
20 naTabhairavi janya Aa: N2 S R2 G2 R2 S M1 P D1 N2 S Av: S D1 N2 P M1 P G2 M1 R2 SAlthough aarohanam of Darbari kaanada is sung in different ways, that not is relevant for our discussion.
Note that there is no D1 in kaanada and no D2 in darbari kanada.
Whenever I hear you sing en manam alai "paa"yudhE (da ni sa) I observe you are singing D1 and not D2. This is a fleeting aberration in an otherwise gripping rendition.

Hey Jane…excellent yet again…Seems like you have been practicing a lot…Keep up the good work. The only pointer i have is:
D1: 22 kharaharapriya janya Aa: S R2 G2 M1 D N2 S Av: S N2 P M1 G2 M1 R2 S
D2: 20 naTabhairavi janya Aa: N2 S R2 G2 R2 S M1 P D1 N2 S Av: S D1 N2 P M1 P G2 M1 R2 S
I agree that there is no D1 in kaanada and no D2 in darbari kanada. But this is Tamil…Why are we talking about Kannada? Totally different language you see.
