This ghazal has a very charming composition by ghazal maestro Janaab Jagjit Singh sahab and his singing is as usual outstanding.As is well known, Jagjit ji was responsible for ghazal boom in Indian sub-continent which began in late seventies. Through his innovative methods by use of new instruments and latest technology of recording, he single handedly revived fading interest of people in this form of music. I love this ghazal since its inception but track was not available anywhere. Now I have prepared the karaoke track myself by vocal-cut method. Lyrics are very meaningful.

For the benefit of those who are not able to follow language, I am translating the sthayee (first 2 lines) of this ghazal in English:

“Not only flowers but thorns are also essential for the beauty of a graden….
For survival in this world…one needs sorrow also in addition to happiness”

गुलशन की फ़क़त फूलों से नहीं काटों से भी ज़ीनत होती है,
जीने के लिये इस दुनिया में ग़म की भी ज़रूरत होती है ।

ऐ वाइज़-ए-नादान करता है तू एक क़यामत का चर्चा,
यहाँ रोज़ निगाहें मिलती है यहाँ रोज़ क़यामत होती है ।

वो पुरसिश-ए-ग़म को आये हैं कुछ ना सकूँ चुप रह ना सकूँ,
ख़ामोश रहूँ तो मुश्किल है कह दूँ तो शिकायत होती है ।

करना ही पड़ेगा ज़ब्त-ए-अलम पीने ही पड़ेंगे ये आसूँ,
फरीयाद-ओ-फ़ुगाँ से ऐ नादाँ तोहीन-ए-मोहब्बत होती है ।

जो आ के रूके दामन पे ‘सबा’ वो अश्क़ नहीं है पानी है,
जो अश्क़ ना छलके आँखो से उस अश्क़ की क़ीमत होती है ।
