THIS IS MY TRIBUTE TO LATE GHAZAL MAESTRO JANAAB JAGJIT SINGH SAHAB WHO PASSED AWAY YESTERDAY (10.10.2011) AT MUMBAI
The world seems very empty today…I am finding it very difficult to come to terms with the fact that Jagjit sahab is no more with us. I lived,ate and slept with his music all these years of my life.
Jagjit sahab was credited with rebirth of ghazal genre in Indian subcontinent. He single handedly created craze of this form of vocal music. It all started with his album THE UNFORGETTABLES in the year 1976 which broke all records of popularity. Since then he never looked back. He changed the complexion of ghazals by use of modern instruments (earlier only Harmonium and tabla were used). His contemporary ghazal singers were also legends like Mehdi Hasan sahab and Ghulam Ali sahab.
This NAZM (Type of poetry in Urdu which carries a single thought throughout, in contrast a GHAZAL comprises of different SHERS which usually carry independent thoughts) is one of the most touching poems ever written and it has been sung with outstanding feel by the legendary singer.
