amazing grace by the great awakening was the peoples anthem at the isle of white festival 1970.over five hundred thousand of us held hands to this a lot of peoples lives were changed for ever it was very moving i will never forget it. there was a lot of chaos at the festival too,but i was seventeen at the time and some nice american people took me under there wing we just had fun we didn’t get any of the chaos the bands that played were so good they played dancing in the moonlight that was magic.

I was there too, great days. I almost broke my neck running down the slope that separated the campsite from the sea, I was stoned out of my head at the time and seriously misjudged the angle of decent. I ran and couldn’t stop, I got faster and faster and didn’t know what to do, then my foot caught in a little clump of gorse or something and I took off; I flew for a few yards and landed on my head, which was lucky because it was so thick in those days that I got away with just a few scratches. The thought of that mad run still gives me the shakes to think about. But it was all worth it for the Isle of White 1970

Sadly I wasn’t there. I was 17, heard the song, ordered the record in advance and played it to everyone I could. The music just AMAZED me. Have tried to find it on other web sites but to no avail so my heartfelt thanks to Roland Chamatand – merci beaucoup!

I was there with Ted TUKSA, Walt and Mick BENTHAM.It had the most profound effect on me. Just hearing the opening chords of Amazing Grace takes me right back there as if no time at all has passed. Of ALL the music, by all the world’s greatest who performed there, none is as evocative as this. Thank you Great Awakening for helping me to wake up.
