The gist of this hymn is friendship, friendship between us and the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, as well as friendship amongst His elect. The thought that our Lord Jesus considers you as His friend should always be remembered and should always be encouraging to you.
We should never be discouraged, but then, we are human, and we do end up being despondent – even as the Apostle Paul (Acts 28: 15). I hope that this item will be a source of enjoyment and encouragement when you’re down and out. It is one of those traditional hymns that have always helped me through the difficult times; always reminding me that He is Faithful and True.
