Vaasamillaa Malaridhu - Cover by Arvind - Film: Oru Thalai Raagam
Vaasamillaa Malaridhu - Cov... Lyrics & Chords
A recording attempt after ages!!!.
Took a easy one to hopefully ease into some kind of form, after a very slow recovery with my throat!.
A simple yet catchy hit tune by T. Rajender sung by SPB … I think the film was a big hit too at that time.
All comments welcome….don’t hold back!!.
Thanks for listening.

Hey Arvind-Welcome back….so glad to hear your voice after some time….you made me smile with this……thanks for that……you sounded fairly ‘you’,in my view!……Found your voice more melancholic than usual……even as your smiling, giggling etc,the kinda sogam feel,so apt for this, sticks I guess……Enjoyed this Arvind….Yes this movie was a big hit and a ‘refreshing tragedy’ at that time!
PS:I am not sure what you meant by an easy number,Suspect no song is easy unless rendered and acknowledged in equal measure!
Regards,
Subbu.

Arvind,
Beautiful number, man. I never heard this (I don’t think it was made its way into Telugu (dubbed version). Even then, I can tell you have done a great job and juatice to this song. You really have a rich voice and very nice expression with all that lauhgs through out. I always enjoy SPB numbers that have his characteristic laughs that he is so famous for. Keep it up man.
Best,
Ravi

This was one of those two songs (other one was mandram vandha) I was constantly asked in college to sing on stage. So it was a pleasant reminder to those days when I saw you posted it.
TR had a knack to create beautiful tunes and then add a stupid orchestration over it. I used to feel that it was akin to “nalla samaichuttu reNdu kai uppai aLLip pOtta maadhiri”. But somehow that feeling has vanished over years with me realizing that he had minimal musical abilities and he just wanted a platform for his tunes.
Your beautiful and enviable baritone comes across easily an do your characteristic expressions. Some portions definitely need attention : “Enna sugam kaNdaay indru varai thodarndhu” line is note rendered very stably. Some trade off between expressions and shruti in there.
But newer inclusions like “ada pOda” were really enjoyable.

Harshan … thanks and glad you liked it. You are right about my throat getting there … thanks!.
Sowmya, Thanks heaps and very happy that you liked it. I recorded this despite my mixer having some output issues. Looks like I have to get it repaired or get a new one!. Looking forward to your next song Sowmya! :-)
Subbu Happy that you liked it … you are right, I should not have said “easy” … I did reflect on it after posting it. No song is easy as such and I did give this one due attention, but could do better in places I guess. Your astute comments are like a breath of fresh air.
Vidya, Thanks and yes it has been a while … hope to record a bit more often now, fingers crossed. BYW you are doing great with your songs!.
Hi Srini, Thanks for the comments and glad you liked it!. T.R. is a feisty character isn’t he?!. Sogathilum oru brisk drum-beat! :-)
Hi Priya … thanks. It is “Vaasamillaa Mala Idhu, Vasandhathai Thedudhu” i.e. “This flower has no scent and yet it seeks happiness!”.
Hi Ravi … thanks and I don’t think there is a telugu version of this from what I know!. The power of SPB’s orginality genius rubs off on all of us irrespective!.
Hi Murali, Good analogy about T.R. … probably he did not take it all too serioulsy being a bit of a Speedy Gonzales! He has some rare tunes to his credit however like “Moogililey Paatezhudum” “Neelakkuyilgal Rendu”. Sruthi perfection is a constant quest of mine and well noted … will try harder!. Thanks.

Very beautiful rendition Arvind! Your voice is your greatest plus. That mesmerizing 80s SPB feel!! I enjoyed this song very much.
I agree with Murali. TR’s orchestration is VERY disorganized. The reason is…… I heard those days he will usually come up with a tune to the studio and tell the drummer and keyboardists to poondhu vilayaadify whatever they wanted to explore. So all the instrumentalists took part in his compositions which resulted in this disorganized orchestration. Once upon a time, TR was was the favorite music director for his keyboardist AR Rahman and Drummer Sivamani…. wait wait the reason was, he loaded them with funds (to take advantage of their creativity) and bought them the latest brand new instruments (I heard that AR rahman changed his keyboard 13 times when he was working with TR)!!

Shows clearly that you are recuperating from whatever your throat has been giving you hell with :)
Been ages since I heard this one. Nice one for the most part. Was very pitchy especially the pallavi, and guess your throat warmed up as the song progressed. Your innovative poda was very natural.
I missed your exuberance though!

Enjoyed that so much, Arvind (welcome back BTW)! You got better and better as you progressed to the charanams.
Nice discussion about TR. To me, the googly was “Julie I love you”- Just didn’t believe that it was TR!
BTW- “Neelakuyilgal rendu” is SG or Chandrabose, I think.

Thanks Tara, Kumar and Adithi for listening and for your feedback. Yes my voice is not as before and I have to struggle a bit more to sing these days due to sinus issues. Would like to think it is getting a bit better but not normal. Cheers guys!. :-)
