Verbal Diarrhoea - doctors in Muziboo urged to cure it!.

Can’t help but notice that there is a particular style of feedback commentary emerging in our spaces that borders on verbal diarrhoea!. These emanate from a certain group of similar speaking IDs, that DOES NOT contribute any music to this website, but nevertheless rambles on and on about how much they love music and about how selective they are in listening and giving feedback to ‘good singers’!. The style of commentary seems to proclaim that they are self-annointed lovers and gurus of music and given a chance I think they would love to moderate this website!.

The purpose of me starting this discussion is to pass my view on this type of bizarre commentary. I find it totally fake and parochial and very narrow minded in so far as to pick out a few singers for abnormal praise and indirectly chiding the rest as dispensable. I say to these IDs, “Upload your music or simply sit back and enjoy the music and keep your comments to bare minimum!”. No need to go out of your way to proclaim your virtuous intent and giving abundant funny-sounding fake praise. This is all pretty futile and stupid and very narrow minded and will not go far. This is a good website with some seriously good performers and free exchange of genuine feedback. There is no place for silly rambling comments from people who are not musicians and who do not contribute anything worthwhile.

My message to my fellow musician friends in Muziboo is this: Simply delete such ramblings from your spaces in future, to send the clear message that we do not need such IDs wandering among us like lost ghosts!. In this case I firmly believe that deleting is the best medicine. There are enough genuine musicians on this website to keep each other motivated and we do not need this outer nonsense!.

With this I close this opening discussion and thank you for reading it.

George … thanks for your feedback. If we stick to general principles, we can ignore most things in life and just carry on like nothing has happened!. However, the issue I raised is rather specific. I am not sure if you have read some of these funny comments, which also patronize your name several times in other peoples’ spaces. Comments like “bla bla … I only respect a few singers like George in this website….bla bla….” are rather warped and uncalled for, don’t you think?!. This is out of order in my book and deserves a response. We all know it is an open forum, that’s exactly why even I have taken the liberty of expressing my view!. Your advice is fine for most feedback comments … we all take the good with the not so good. However, this is a specific point and if you are saying that these funny comments should go without notice then so be it … I will take that as your opinion.

Shampak, Thanks for your view. Hey … this is not about shortage or otherwise of admirers … this is about pointing out deliberate funny behaviour and that is all. And as for my “wonderful and perfect singing” I am not sure if there was a caveat of sarcacm there! … I am still trying … trust me your compliment is rather premature!.

I think Harshan has summarised it pretty well above and I will rest my case. Thanks to others like Rakesh as well who acknowledge this specific issue. I too have noticed that these funny comments seem to have dwindled since the commencement of this thread. From my point of view, it has been worth it and thanks to everyone for your input too.

Wow…what a discussion! Appreciate the idea behind it, and agree with many of your opinions.

Am one of those new ones into this wonderful site; not the comments-only ones, but one of the love-to-sing-too ones. I see most of you who’ve participated in this discussion are PRO members, and surely must be long-timers here. Would like to say something from a newbie perspective, if I may…

There are a lot of people who’re like me, who like to sing but have only recently joined here. We are not paid members, and we do have the restriction in uploading songs. I am happy to live with it, until I reach a level of singing and self-confidence to decide it is worth paying up to continue this. Like many of us, I too have a couple of friends who’ve joined Muziboo simply so that they could listen to any songs I try and give me some comments. I am sure they are also enjoying the so many wonderful veteran talents. People who really may not be musically well-qualified, but well, what else are friends for! I also have seen many other members who only give comments (but very qualified ones), and who’ve been in this site for a long time. I guess, commenting on music is also an art, which needs to be cultivated over time. It is an acquired taste.
(Here, I can personally vouch that none my friends would ever write offensive or discouraging comments for anyone.)

However, not to disregard the original issue many of you have outlined. Though none in my few songs (I am nowhere as well-networked as many of you are…:) ), I did come across a few comments in other spaces, like Arvind mentioned in his post. I did find them discouraging too, especially being new here.
In fact, apart from my friends, I know no one else here (well, I have begun making some friends…). So how do I judge whose feedback should be appreciated and accepted and action-item’ed, whose feedback is well, nice to have, and whose I can simply wash over? I am sure this would be the state of almost all us newbies. So what do we do?

This is where we need to remember this is not only an elite space for truly talented/interested people but also a site open to the whole world. We ought to use a lot of discretion, keep an open mind. At the same time not to lose focus, and continue to believe in oneself and not stop trying! As for such mis-leading/discouraging/irritating comments, I am sure we could all go ahead and individually just ignore them.
(Being new, I might actually get happy over it that someone still took time to listen to my singing… :) )

I’ve simply spoken my mind here, and hope it is not offensive to anyone. That would be the last of my intentions…

Cheers
